A Rising Tide of Fury
The Washington Times ^ | Tony Blankley

Posted on 05/02/2007 4:53:21 PM PDT by SE Mom

Whenever I refer to the threat of radical Islam, I am inundated with e-mails chastising me for unjustified alarmism (that is the polite description of the missives)...

... To varying degrees, 27 percent of Moroccans, 21 percent of Egyptians, 13 percent of Pakistanis and 11 percent of Indonesians approve of terrorist attacks on civilians -- and not just American civilians. Extrapolating those percentages to the world Muslim population, roughly 250 million Muslims may approve, under some circumstances, of terrorist attacks on civilians generally. ... It should be remembered that a majority of Germans never voted for Hitler. His high-water mark was about four in 10 -- and that probably overstated his true level of support. Indeed, only a minority of American colonists supported our noble revolution.

... Let us, at least, now be resolved to not permit any candidate for president -- Republican or Democrat -- to get away with merely criticizing past decisions and policies or offering simplistic slogans on the war on terror (or whatever other term people prefer for the global jihad threat to the West). Let's insist that they each discuss in depth their understanding of the threat and their considered and detailed strategy for protecting us in the future. Winston Churchill warned when he took over government in 1940: "If we open a quarrel between the past and the present, we shall find that we have lost the future." And, as an official alarmist, let me assert that the data, such as above, suggest that our future is quite losable if we persist in ignoring the regrettable realities pregnant within it.

Those numbers seem awfully low.
In polls released several times a year, the percentage in most muslim countries is between 40 and 60%, with occupied Western Israel a whopping 80%.
I suspect the numbers shown here have been "cooked" to minimize the threat.

in other words, about 80 percent of the 1.4 billion Muslims (or about a billion souls) see America as hostile or an enemy to Islam.

A self-fulfilling prophecy, since even IQ impaired muslims must realize that if they vocally, daily declare themselves our enemies, blow up things and murder innocents worldwide, it seems natural that some emnity towards islam is a natural consequence.

Between 61 percent and 67 percent of the polled Muslims also thought that America's goal was to spread Christianity in the Middle East. Given that Islam teaches that Muslim converts to other religions must be executed, this purported American objective is probably not well received.

This mysterious paragraph baffles me, because it makes no sense.

The absurdity of it becomes clear if we turn the statements around: if Christians were to convert to islam, and as a result were klled by other Christians, how does that reflect negatively on muslims?

The statements make it seem that it's Christianity's fault if muslims are treacherous, ignorant, murderous and irrational.
I'm sure that was not the intent.

Well- I think Tony’s point is...there are millions of muslims who believe terrorism is acceptable. A small percentage of them can mobilize and run ops ..9/11 for example...and the endless other examples.

Actually- I think his point is..that’s how muslims view Americans. We want to convert them. We are therefore not to be trusted.

I don’t want to convert them.
I want to kill them, before they kill me.

I have well meaning polite Christians, knocking on my door on Saturday mornings, spreading the “word”.

I don’t have any desire to “kill” them.In fact, while sometimes annoyed, I don’t even have the urge to be rude to them.
I very much doubt any Christian harbors a desire to kill me, or mine, for my unbelief.

What part do we not comprehend yet???

The part that logically leads on to the realization by the majority of Americans that years of sacrifice and brutal effort will be required to put Islamofacism into its grave.

That still makes no sense. Sincere conversion is always a free decision of the individual conscience. There is nothing threatening or oppressive about it. The reality is, those Muslims who feel that their power over other Muslims is threatened by the superior attractiveness of the modern west, resent the modern west and seek to secure their hold over the rest of the Muslim world by driving said west away by violence.

But there is nothing remotely defensible in this attitude. Men can have a right to freely decide on their own religious beliefs. But they have no right to use force to impose those beliefs on others around them, in order to possess them as subjects. Not in the Muslim world any more than here.
