It's not what you say...
It's WHO is listening and taking notes!!
Are the days of TALK RADIO over???
I’m new here, but is this really “breaking news”?
Can we fire “Journalists” for lying too? The newspapers would cease to exist if that were the rule.
So much for freedom of speech.
This looks like a different issue than Imus. She is directly
attacking the Banks business by advocating depositors leave.
She was spreading inaccurate information if not lying about the ownership of a bank. Then calling for a run on the bank. This could hurt a lot of people if she was successful.
I’m not an attorney, but it seems to me that there really is a serious financial problem facing the nation if anyone can go on air and tell listeners to take their money out of a bank. Picture a slew of liberals doing this. The country could go down financially.
I’d like to hear about Barb from some listener of her shows. Is she one of the nuts who attack organizations just to get attention to her show? We had one of them locally and were most happy to see her go.
We have big elections coming up next year, and Barb Stanton is an outspoken voice on the air who is now GONE.
One by one... they fall.
What I find amazing is that her comments were just a handful of words plucked out of a commentary.
If someone listened to everything WE said, and edited out the choice few, we’d be in the HOT seat too!
This firing is an abuse of power, pure and simple.
The internet and talk radio are slowly being put out-of-service.
Soon, will there be any place for OUR voice??
Never Forget: Election 2008 is just around the corner.
would anyone know barb stanton if she fell into their soup?
Out of context?
She made some serious errors in judgement. This nothing like the Imus situation.
Barb was as dumb as a box of rocks! She has made dumb clueless comments over the years and finally “dumb clueless commented” the wrong person/firm. She will not be missed as only three or four people tuned her in anyways. Her program was rated 26th in listeners. She considered herself as a “mover” but usually failed utterly. Radio 960 will be better without her.
I compared an unedited recording of the show segment, taken from the transmitter signal. The actual segment was about two minutes and forty three seconds in length. Someone, at the newspaper cut a total of about one minute and seventeen seconds out of it, leaving a carefully edited sound bite of about one minute and twenty six seconds that was used on the Fastrack Local News on the newspaper WEB site. It is quite clear that the newspaper cherry picked segments of the original audio to create a new context. In communication the context is just as important as the actual words. Whether it is from the same medium or converted from one medium to another, as in audio to print, the definition of Transcript is an accurate copy of the material. What they called a Transcript in the newspaper was not an accurate copy of the original material or even their edited sound bite. By calling it a Transcript they lied. Although some things may have been better left unsaid, IMO the segment, in context, should not of been a fireable offense. It would appear that many, if not most, of the people that formed their opinions based on the newspaper article, including possibly the financial institution and radio station officials, were IMO victimized by a Yellow Journalism Hit Piece that would have been better in the opinion section rather than masquerading as a news story.
