On the 60th anniversary of VJ-Day in 2005, Marine Capt. Randy Stone, a military lawyer serving in Iraq, became a presidential poster boy. Capt. Stone's two grandfathers fought at Iwo Jima, so President Bush, in a celebratory speech, turned the whole family into a gold-braided rhetorical flourish to depict the continuity of American character and courage from one war to another.
"Captain Stone proudly wears the uniform just as his grandfathers did at Iwo Jima," said Mr. Bush. "He's guided by the same convictions they carried into battle. He shares the same willingness to serve a cause greater than himself... Randy says, 'I know we will win because I see it in the eyes of the Marines every morning. In their eyes is the sparkle of victory.' "
That was then. I wish the president would look into Capt. Stone's eyes now as the officer finishes up his first week of Article 32 hearings, the military's equivalent of a grand jury proceeding, to determine whether dereliction of duty charges against him will go to trial.
What would Mr. Bush see? I can only imagine that if I were Capt. Stone, in the uniform my grandfathers wore, with their convictions and willingness to serve, that "sparkle of victory" the 34-year-old Marine once talked about would be lost in the hard-eyed look of the betrayed.

Ugh. You’re right. I knew something was wrong when we changed the name of the Afghan war from “Infinite Justice.”
This pisses me off. The man is being tried because he decided to support the decision of the Marines on the ground. Anyone can see that the Marines did not murder anyone, but noooo. We have to appease the anti-American media and give them a good story about evil Americans killing Iraqi “civilians”.
I think this is just the way of the world, nowadays. Look at all the countries that were world powers with powerful armies...they have mostly turned politically correct. I think we are in that transition period now. I think it’s the side-affects of being more civilised, and more of a democracy.
The old ones are long gone.
Even if we had a new generation "Patton", the politicians would take care of that rather quickly.

The Article 32 hearing has been in progress for four days for Capt. Stone and will continue tomorrow at 8 AM Pacific time.There will be six more Article 32 hearings for the balance of the Haditha Marines who have been charged to decide whether they should be court-martialed.
They have civilian as well as military lawyers and they could use financial help for their defense.
PC has already destroyed our country. It is going to get worse as this weak administration tries to “do good” for everyone but loyal American citizens.

I am afraid that until America wakes up from it's current slumber, we will continue to have this crap. Unfortunately, 99.99% of politicians support the illegals to legal status crap. (I know my father would have run from the current dimocrat party as fast as his legs would have taken him. He was a WWII vet and would never have agreed with the current dimocrats.) We are a country filled with gutter slime and we will continue down that slipper slope until Americans regain their senses. However, with the current dumbing down of the youth of this Republic, I fear that will not be possible. I think America may have seen her best days. We are destine to slip and slide in the slime such as Europe does now. We are over run by illegals getting free stuff, voting for Marxist's dimocrats.
I can tell you that every one of those civilians knew that the IED was placed there, and they did nothing to stop our troops from running into it. You’d know it if someone buried a giant IED in front of your house. All these Iraqis do as well.
