General Electric is recalling two-and-a-half million dishwashers because of a wiring problem that could cause a fire.
The recall includes GE dishwashers sold under the brands Eterna, GE, GE Profile, GE Monogram, Hotpoint, and Sears Kenmore. The brand name is printed on the dishwasher's front control panel. The dishwashers come in many colors or stainless steel.
They were sold through department and appliance stores between September 1997 through December 2001 for about $400.
GE received nearly 200 complaints of overheating, including 12 fires caused by the washers. There were 56 reports of property damage.
The problem: liquid rinse-aid can leak from the dispenser onto the internal wiring, which can cause a short circuit and overheating.
The Consumer Product Safety Commission says consumers should immediately stop using the dishwashers and contact General Electric to arrange a free repair or a $150 to $300 rebate toward a new dishwasher. Call toll-free 1-877-607-6395 between 7 A.M. and 7 P.M. Monday through Saturday, or visit General Electric's web site.
LOL, love the add on to the headline.
Maytag just had the same problem...
OOhhh...I thought it was a people recall first..and I was all excited...
Now GE is recalling dishwashers.
At first glance I thought this was about Mexicans working in resteraunts being called home because of a shortage of dishwashers in Mexican resorts that cater to rich Americans.
It’s about time they deported some of those illegal immigrants!
Just doin' the job Americans won't do. :)
Oh so due your sloppy quality control I should just go ahead and pay $1200 for a new machine and you will give me a 10 to 20 percent rebate. WOW!
Have 2 illegals pick up each one and carry them back. We solve 2 problems in one whack. Cool.
" Hágale habla inglés"
No more dishwashers in Farmers Branch?
Leafblower (Mexican Bagpipes) - from my cold dead hands...
For a minute I got hopeful, thinking they meant the illegals that were here washing dishes....
bummer...
Ya think that things would have been any better had they been built with fatsos being paid “a living wage” (whatever the hell that means) in, say, Michigan?
This of course is the result of pinheads and executives at, WalMart(GE’s largest customer for dishwashers) , GE consumer durables division and Maytag who decided closing down the US manufacturing plants and outsourcing the labor and manufacture would secure increased short term profits, accolades from shareholders and Wall Street analysts, and the padding of the executives’ golden parachutes.
Meanwhile the whole scheme is now an albatross, the executives are shown to have never cared in the first place as they have moed on to savage a new corporation, and the manufacturing towns in the US are still struggling after the loss of the jobs from the GE shutdown.
GE will now have lost all cost benefits from moving the manufacture of dishwashers, and they are now trapped in Mexico, and in the meantime, the US consumer/taxpayer is forced to buy lower quality goods because Wal Mart execs demanded cost cutting so severe it results in house fires and possible deaths.
Mexican Bagpipes???
OH! I’m so LMFAO!
lolol
“Leafblower (Mexican Bagpipes)”
can’t stop laughing!
never heard that before
