Pelosi Defends Murtha Vs. GOP Reprimand

Pelosi Defends Murtha Vs. GOP Reprimand May 20 10:06 AM US/Eastern WASHINGTON (AP) - House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is defending a close Democratic ally whom Republicans want to reprimand for threatening a GOP lawmaker's spending projects.

Pelosi, D-Calif., said she had "no idea what actually happened" during a noisy exchange in the House chamber last week between Reps. John P. Murtha, D-Pa., and Mike Rogers, R-Mich.

"What I do know is that Congressman Murtha has—enjoys—an excellent reputation in the Congress on both sides of the aisle," said Pelosi in a broadcast interview taped Friday and aired Sunday.

"He writes the defense appropriation bill in a bipartisan way each year and with the complete involvement of the Republicans as to who gets what on the Republican side," she said.

Murtha is a 35-year House veteran who leads the House Appropriations subcommittee on military spending. He is known for a fondness for earmarks—carefully targeted spending items placed in appropriations bills to benefit a specific lawmaker or favored constituent group.

During a series of House votes Thursday, Murtha walked to the GOP side to confront Rogers, a former FBI agent. This month, Rogers had tried unsuccessfully to strike from an intelligence spending bill an item that would restore $23 million for the National Drug Intelligence Center, a facility in Murtha's Pennsylvania district.

According to Rogers' account, which Murtha did not dispute, the Democrat angrily told Rogers he should never seek earmarks of his own because "you're not going to get any, now or forever."

"This was clearly designed to try to intimidate me," Rogers told The Associated Press on Friday. "He said it loud enough for other people to hear."

House rules prohibit lawmakers from placing conditions on earmarks or targeted tax benefits that are based on another member's votes.

Shrieker Pelosi is to the House of Representatives what Jimmy Carter was to the institution of the Presidency.

Inept, incompetent, and a FOOL.

Murtha (along with Pelosi, Reid, Waxman, Kennedy, Leahy...) should be expelled from Congress.

"you're not going to get any, now or forever."

Someone should explain to ABSCAM Murtha that he won't be the chief purveyor of pork forever.

Why should the defense budget be bi-partisan, I guess she is saying he “splits up the pork.”

If you can’t fight in the political game you shouldn’t call yourself a political party.

Republicans really do need to read Horowitz’s “Art of Political War.”
::::
So true. The GOP has become useless, IMHO, so I withdrew my support and registration last week. They have failed us miserably, and that goes all the way to the top of the administration. Zero leadership, zero sense of country and America — so much more worried about sweeping millions of criminals under the rug and raping the taxpayer, to the tune of TRILLIONS, to pay for it. Nice job GOP.

For the past twelve years, Murtha has not been in the majority. Just how it that he was writing the bills? Says more about the Republicans than the RATS if this is truly the case, and it certainly wouldn't surprise me given how during those 12 years the Stupid Party more often than not acted like they were still in the minority.

Guess that knocks the crap out of Pelosi’s bi-partisan remark.

Isn it too bad that we cant get a defense budget passed because of the wrangle over who gets pork and who doesnt?
These people are criminals, plain and simple divvying up the loot to see who can buy the most votes in their district.

This is wahts running the country. A pack of thieves.

SCREW EM ALL.

The Congress might still be something respectable, instead of the mound of pig excrement it has turned into.

You are insulting pig droppings. At least they are useful as fertilizer as compared to almost all of Congress, who are parasites on our country

I never thought in my lifetime I would be so completely disgusted beyond words by the Congress and the GOP.

“Pelosi, D-Calif., said she had “no idea what actually happened” during a noisy exchange in the House chamber last week between Reps. John P. Murtha, D-Pa., and Mike Rogers, R-Mich.”

This idiot is Speaker of the House. Maybe she should find out what actually happened.

Murtha is getting more certifiable every week and it's about time for the men in white coats to take care of him.

Here’s a symptom of the greater problem with the Republicans when they ran the House. They STILL let this idiot write the DA bill. Wasn’t there anybody on the Republican MAJORITY that could write it?

Pelosi had better start getting a clue to what's going on in the House if she's going to run it. It's clear that murtha is losing his faculties and should retire to a life of assisted care.

Here's a short video of his outburst with Rep. Todd Tiahrt on May 8th in the US House of Representatives.

Video of murtha losing it.

Glad to see this getting some air time on the Sunday political talk circuit. Murtha has done so much damage toward winning the war in Iraq, and hardly anyone has challenged him. Now that someone is standing up to him, I say, hooray. Even if the reprimand doesn’t pass, this guy is trying and fighting back against Murtha. Keep pressuring Murtha in the House!

The same Congress that has an approval rate less than 30%? So that puts Murtha about a 20% approval rate assuming two-thirds in Congress support him.

You nailed it!

According to Rasmussen Reports....

Murtha has a 22% Favorable, 41% Unfavorable rating among selected members of Congress.

"What I do know is that Congressman Murtha has—enjoys—an excellent reputation in the Congress on both sides of the aisle," said Pelosi in a broadcast interview taped Friday and aired Sunday.

Using the words "Murtha" and "excellent reputation" in the same sentence is all anyone needs to know about the intellect and integrity of San Fran Nan.
