BAGHDAD — Seven American soldiers and a translator were killed in separate attacks in Baghdad and a city south of the capital, the U.S. military said today.

Six of the Americans and the translator died Saturday in a bombing in western Baghdad, the military said. The soldiers were from the Multinational Division-Baghdad.

A soldier from the 13th Sustainment Command was killed and two were wounded when a blast struck their vehicle Saturday near Diwaniyah, a mostly Shiite city 80 miles south of Baghdad, the command said.

With the surge, you will initially see more casulties. Like D-Day, when you start confronting the enemy they with fight back.

Keep things in perspective:

I agree with bnelson44.

While I want to see every single person in our Armed Forces come home unharmed, the reality is that they are in a shooting war. And even though it is primarily in Afghanistan and Iraq right now, we can and should expect things to break out in other areas at any time in the future.

We have to be in this for the long haul. And we have to be prepared. If our individual military personnel can grit their teeth and get through the deployments while understanding the risks they face, we should acknowlege those risks as well.

We can best support our military by giving them materially what they need, when they need it, and support both personal and professional.

I think one can disagree with the way things are being done and so on, but once we have committed them to do something, we should let them do it, and give them the respect and thanks they deserve.

Keep your chin up. The folks over there would most likely prefer it that way.

Thank you for that graph. The Surge is Working in that we are seeing some real momentum among the Iraqis against Al Queda and Al Sadr. The future looks bright.

Pray for W and these Brave Freedom Fighters

I call ‘em like they are. Dubya’s results in Iraq aren’t defeatist. They just reflect on the perception of his leadership. Pretending it’s not true doesn’t help anyone.

It's weird how we never seem to kill any of the bad guys. We've been there for four years and we haven't done anything good. I know because I read the papers and I watch the news evry night. I am an informed American!

When you judge Iraq on perception (in other words the media portrayal, or what certain people want to see), then it is indeed a defeat... or a quagmire, or a civil war... or whatever we are told to believe.

This isn’t about “Dubya” but about the USA and our troops’ achievements. We are making tremendous progress in Iraq, depsite all odds. Blending it out and focusing only on the casualties, which unfortunately lie in the nature of war, isn’t helping anyone either.

It is about Dubya in the respect that he is seen as a weak, ineffective commander in chief, both domestically and abroad. That undermines US power & authority, and also had a steep political price.

The truth is, visions of Fred Thompson are dancing in some FReepers’ heads, but looks to me that the 2008 will be another major setback for the GOP (that is, the folks taking the WoT seriously), losing not only the white House but more significant ground in the House & Senate.

This whole situation really sucks.

Yes, and as you can see, even some here are more susceptible to enemy/MSM propaganda than others.

Even to the point of using the same language and mocking tone of the President and his name.

Perception is reality. Get used to it.

LOL, no thanks, that’s your bandwagon, ride along now, no need to try and pick me up.

I’m sticking with the good guys.

I’m with the good guys, too.

I just place a higher value on clarity, that’s all.

Yes LV you, Savage, the MSM, the Dims, the Islamic cults, ect, have been very clear, for years now.

And no doubt your “high value” bandwagon is filled to the brim and overflowing with those you have picked up the last 4 years.

But since your destination is unknown, and production value is zero, I’ll pass and stick with the good guys who are actually breaking a sweat.

Is there at least a theoretical point where you can acknowledge that things aren’t going well, or have your compromised your ability to evaluate clearly by categorically eliminating a negative evaluation from your range of possibilities?

In other words, are you even capable of acknowledging a negative circumstance in this context?

LOL, take heart LV, your “winning” headchoppers in Iraq may blow up some more women and children tomorrow, and you can crow and "question" about that idiot/evil “Dubya” again!

Now scram you MSM waterboy. I'm sticking with the Americans.
