Although he is no longer an FBI agent, Brad Garrett still visits the steep, wooded hillside in a Washington, D.C., park where the skeletal remains of Chandra Levy, a federal intern from Modesto, were found five years ago this week, a year after she disappeared.
No one has been charged in the killing of the 24-year-old, whose disappearance generated enormous publicity after authorities revealed that she had been having a relationship with her married hometown congressman, Gary Condit. Condit was defeated in 2002 by his former aide, Dennis Cardoza.

My memory is a little fuzzy of all the details but the suspicious facts included:
1) He finished his meeting with the Vice President minutes before Chandra logged off her home computer
2) Condit made her leave all ID at home when she met with him, and she had done so on her fateful last trip.
3) Condit's timeline he gave the police contained proven inaccuracies, especially for the day she went missing, when he specified he was being interviewed by a reporter, an interview that took place on a different day that week (and is not a mistake easy to make when the police were focused on that one day, and in his calendar the interview would have been on a different day)
4) Chandra had confided with only one person about the affair (she was told to tell no one), her aunt. She was in love with Condit and hoping he would leave his wife. The day before, she had told her aunt she had very exciting news that she could not wait to share. The aunt had not yet called to find out what the news was before Chandra disappeared. This sounds like Condit gave her some BS story that they would be together, possibly in order to get her alone somewhere for any sort of dastardly deed.
5) Condit had never missed a vote in umpteen years, yet missed most of a day's worth the week after Chandra disappeared. That day, he placed a call to another of his girlfriends (who had left a message asking if Condit was involved in the other girl's disappearance) that was tracked by her cell phone records as originating in a remote location in Luray, VA.
6) Also in the week(s) after Chandra's disappearance, Condit was seen far from his neighborhood dropping some McDonald's trash into a public receptacle. It was recovered and contained a rare (traceable by purchase) watch given him by yet another girlfriend. Maybe nothing to do with the Chandra case, but it shows a man with lots he wants to try and hide.
7) He stonewalled and was not open nor forthcoming with police or any other interview. He obviously knew much more than he was letting on.
8) The most damning? The day her parents could not reach Chandra, they contacted everyone they thought might know something about where she was, and finally broke down and called Condit himself, and if I'm not mistaken, at his California home. With the Missus there. At any rate, they were alarmed and asked him to help them locate her. He said he would, but took 24 hours or so to call the DC Police. There is no record that he called Chandra or tried to find her, and if his phone records were never subpoenaed, they need to be. If he truly waited a day before doing ANYTHING to locate her after hearing from her desperate family, it sounds to me as though he knew where she was.
What else do you remember about the case?
I recall that several congressmen friends of Condit were regulars to parties at his apartment, which uncovered lots of DNA. When 9-11 happened, several of those congressmen did not run for reelection. We know who they were; they know what was going on in that apartment with those staffers, interns and pages.
Chandra Levy bump.
He is a Democrat...move on
Was one of them that guy from the Heartland show on one of the news networks? Didn’t they party together? I believe this congressman whose name eludes me for the moment suddenly got married thereafter as well, right?
The truth is, none of those facts are particularly damning and are just coincidences and innuendo.
If he had something to do with her disappearance & death, it has nothing much to do with the facts you list here, sorry.
You are thinking of John Kasich. I thought he was already married. Also was Joe Scarborough on MSNBC who also had a staffer who died.
Re. #8, I think just the opposite - if he didn’t try finding her, then he just wasn’t worried or had no reason to be. It’s not his job to keep track of others if they take off for some reason.
reminds me to Google Joe Scarborough -
I always thought it was Mrs. Condit who made Chandra disappear.
She could not stand playing housewife back in Modesto while Gary ran around DC with Chandra. I’m sure the social network surrounding a congresscritter is leaky enough that stories of Gary and Chandra stepping out were circulated back to his wife. It seems feasible that months of embarrassment and rage could have driven her to murder.
I recall a timeline website that showed Mrs.Condit being in DC at the same time CL disappeared.
There was talk in the weeks after the murder of a ring of congressmen who were into kinky sex, tying girls to beds and the like.
I’d say this is one of those cases where the authorities don’t want to find the killer.
Oy! You hit the nail on the head!!
Actually, the timeline "mistakes" should make law enforcement at least reinvestigate his actual timeline. What we know of his actual timeline is that when she disappeared, he appeared to have no alibi.
If I were investigating the case, I would also like to know why it took him so long to follow through on attempting to find her.
I went bonkers and even told the FBI the info was likely phoney and to go right back to where they left off.
The info did turn out to be phoney!!!
It never got solved because Condit likely had something on a few folks and the DC cops and FBI are enemies!!
They did a sh**-ass job searching!!
My mistake, Kasich actually married in 1997. Sorry.
I’m not saying he is innocent. In fact, my instinct suggested he at least knew more about her disapearance than he was letting on.
Mistakes and inaccuracies do raise suspicion, but in themselves don’t make a case. If there is any hard evidence linking Condit to the disappearance or murder, I’d love to hear it. It’s not like nobody has been looking.
Like I said, so far it’s only coincidence and innuendo, going on 5 years.
Mrs. Condit seemed pretty clueless about her husband’s philandering, whether it was an act or she was genuinely unaware, who knows. I don’t see her luring a big strong girl like Chandra to the park.
While the facts listed above don’t prove he did anything to kill her, it speaks to his character and frankly makes him look very suspicious. IF you disagree with this, you are not intellectually honest or a plain jackass.
One can only hope that one day someone will tell whatever part of the story he/she knows.
Regarding the kinky sex, didn't his flight attendant girlfriend already say that Condit had silk scarves on his bedposts? I remember something to that effect.
What really stood out to me was during a prayer ceremony for 9/11 in DC, which all the big-wigs attended, when Condit was on camera. He had a huge grin on his face. It really contrasted the solemn looks of the rest.
He seemed happy that there was something new in the news.
