House rejects microchip implants for violent criminals

AP | May 29, 2007 Tim Talley

Legislation that would authorize microchip implants in people convicted of violent crimes was sent back to a committee for more work Wednesday after state House members questioned whether the proposal would violate constitutional civil liberties.

The measure, approved by the Senate, authorizes microchip implants for persons convicted of one or more of 19 violent offenses who have to serve at least 85 percent of their sentence, including murder, rape and some forms of robbery and burglary, while prohibiting government from requiring microchips implants in anyone else.

The tiny electronic implants are commonly used to keep track of pets and livestock, but several House members questioned whether their forced use in people would be unconstitutionally invasive.

If the Dimmys steal the 2008 election with Queen Hitlery The Hildebeast "elected", expect the ACLU to do a complete 180 on the subject of implantable microchips by saying "mandatory microchip implants are constitutional".

Oops. But it still doesn’t change the fact that the ACLU favors EVERYTHING that the Democrat establishment does and says.

No they won’t. Violent criminals are the constituency of the ACLU. They are democrats and the democrat party needs every criminal’s vote.

I oppose microchip implants for violent criminals. I favor .308 Nato implants instead.

All they have to do is crack the door open, and eventually you’ll be chipped for speeding down the interstate. Look at Britain, where you must give a DNA sample upon being arrested, not convicted, but simply arrested. Big Brother is only a false allegation away, Duke LaCrosse players come to mind.

The slippery slope is getting some grease.

OTOH, I’m all in favor of chipping politicians, judges and bureaucrats, so I’m not pure on this issue.

“House Rejects micro-chip implants for violent criminals.”

You didn’t see the related story:

“House mandates microchips for all law-abiding US citizens - to be integrated with National ID card and madatory Employment Papers.”

I’d say /sarc but I don’t think it’s appropriate.

while prohibiting government from requiring microchips implants in anyone else.

Of course that's only until they change the law. No protection at all.

Have long known that implanted chips would dramatically drop prison costs as they are a form of ankle bracklets($5/day vs $50/day). Yes, it would only be done on a voluntary basis, either the chip or the zoo cell. This would be especially valuable for first time felons who normally get an education in prison as to how to be a better crook, not a better citizen.
