He voted against one article, and I was bugged about it at the time. Not mentioned, but I know Fred was seriously troubled that the subject of impeachment was over penny ante charges that were the least of Clintoon’s crimes. He’d have much preferred to see a plethora of charges brought over ChinaGate, for starters. I think he was never more shocked in his life to see the level of criminality, and the lengths to which the rodents sought to cover it up (I’ve mentioned many times that when CNN went to the usually affable Fred to get a “feel-good” soundbyte on John Glenn’s long-overdue retirement from the Senate, Fred told them that they couldn’t play on tv exactly what he thought of that slimy little traitor). It was one of the reasons he got fed up with serving in the Senate after a relatively short 8 years (the final straw was his daughter’s untimely death). I couldn’t blame him for wanting to get out of there.

I remember he retired because of the media frenzy after his daughter died. He told in no uncertain terms what he thought of them. If he was president, I don’t think he would take their crap like Bush does.

Any suggestions?

I want someone with deep foreign policy experience. Someone who has fought for decades against terrorism and the international socialists who gave rise to it. Someone who has demonstrated unswerving and courageous devotion to the bedrock principles of American life and liberty over the course of decades. Someone who understands that the worst threats to America and to our Constitution come from within, and who actually bears political scars in his body, so to speak, on behalf of what I believe in. Someone who is willing and able to fight the Left to the political death; and who doesn't think that "bipartisanship" is an admirable quality. I hope someone like that throws his hat in the ring.

Douglas MacArthur in 2008. He's tanned, rested, and ready. ;-D

Well, at least he’d kick the North Koreans butts, even if he had to bomb the Chinese to do it. ;-)

They just don’t make ‘em like Mac anymore... or Patton. Of all the Generals we could’ve elevated to the Presidency, we went with the daisy Ike. D’oh !

You'd better have a closer look at your Fred timber, there, pal; he backed McCain-Feingold campaign finance reform BIGTIME, and caved as the senator that should have investigated the chicom money behind the clintons! Call that presidential timber? As they say, "I have a bridge..."

Better start praying now that Romney is good timber because I think he is going to get the nomination, whether we like it or not. My preference is for Duncan Hunter, who has a terrific conservative rating according to Phyllis Schlafly of Eagle Forum.

But Romney has good looks, a vision, and backbone. Watch him; he's going to win.

"You'd better have a closer look at your Fred timber, there, pal;"

I have, thanks.

"he backed McCain-Feingold campaign finance reform BIGTIME"

Correct. He also has stated publicly that it hasn't WORKED.

"and caved as the senator that should have investigated the chicom money behind the clintons!"

He didn't "cave", as there was no way in hell the rodents on the committee were going to permit the investigation, and the Republicans didn't have the collective balls to push for it. If you were paying attention at the time, you would've known that, pal.

"Call that presidential timber? As they say, "I have a bridge..."

Yup, I call it presidential timber. Ya dig ?

"Better start praying now that Romney is good timber because I think he is going to get the nomination, whether we like it or not."

No, he won't. And that unprincipled, cut and run RINO loser will get shred to pieces by Fred. The rodents will love to have Precious Willard get elected, as he'll help build up their numbers, just as he did in Ratsachusetts, leaving the state with an 89% rodentry in the legislature, and a Marxist Gubernatorial successor.

"My preference is for Duncan Hunter, who has a terrific conservative rating according to Phyllis Schlafly of Eagle Forum."

Dunc will make a great DefSec in Fred's cabinet.

"But Romney has good looks, a vision, and backbone. Watch him; he's going to win."

The hell he will. As for backbone, I've seen my grandma's jello mold that has more of that. As for vision, Stevie Wonder has more vision than Precious. Sorry, dude, I'm not drinking Precious's AIDS RINO kool-aid. I like my GOP viable and flourishing, not dead like Precious left it in Ratsachusetts. He can get stuffed. Get it ? Got it ? Good. ;-)

At the time, Mitt Romney advocated for policies that were even more egregious than McCain-Feingold. Abolishing PACs. Limiting donations. Limiting campaign spending. TAXING contributions to pay for publicly-funded campaigns. Wake up!

((( MITT ROMNEY PING )))

Opening remarks by Gov. Romney at the Tennessee Statesmen Dinner can be viewed at YouTube.

Mitt dispelled the awkwardness of receiving the GOP honor on Fred Thompson's home turf with wit and charm. The crowd of about 800 gave him a very long standing ovation. It was a very kind reception as the video shows.

Video Clip: Gov. Romney At TN GOP Statesman's Dinner

The Tennessean reported on the event and provided this quote:

Republican presidential candidate Gov. Mitt Romney used comic timing, steady criticism of Democrats and broad Republican themes to ingratiate himself with a crowd of Tennessee party fundraisers Saturday night.

The former Massachusetts Governor won points with the 800-person crowd, heavy with Fred Thompson supporters, by making light of a situation that could have been uncomfortable.

This is the joke delivered at the opening of Gov. Romney's speech recorded by the reporter:
"I know there's been some speculation among Republicans about a certain former senator from Tennessee getting into the presidential race," Romney said during the state Republican party's annual Statemen's Dinner fundraiser at the Gaylord Opryland Hotel and Convention Center. "Everyone is waiting and wondering, all the hype is building," he said. "I feel great comfort in the fact that no one in this room, not a single person, will be voting for Al Gore."

Bob Dole was “electable.”

Ronald Reagan was “unelectable.”

And we all know how that turned out.

Y’all underestimate the American people with your subjective, and self-serving, judgments.

How can they ever choose the good if they’re constantly given only a choice between the “lesser of two evils”?
