Hey, calm down. Mittbots and Fredheads don't have much to fight over yet anyway.

Why don't you guys let Fred get into the race for a month or so before you start pretending that every thread on FR is a place to duel for the honor of your candidate and that the outcome of the 2008 election will hinge on your next post.

It's really too early for the full crazy season here at FR. We've eliminated the obvious liberal in the race (Rudy) so there's no need to snarl and snipe for the next six months.

Bob Dole was “electable.”

I never heard anyone accuse him of being electable.

Who of the current crop is best suited to be president? By your standards, Reagan was a flip flopper.

Duncan Hunter.

By your standards, Reagan was a flip flopper.

An unwise tactic on your part. Very unwise.

My God Reagan was a Democrat before he became a Republican....how do you square with that. One of the great presidents actually grew and changed his views.

I agree with you about Hunter....too bad he hasn't got more traction. If Romney wins, I hope he will tap him as a VP. We might even get the fence built then!

I bet you are a Ron Paul supporter, aren’t you?

Eternal Vigilance is part of the growing movement to draft Alan Keyes to run again. He's a big player in Iowa and believes that he can deliver Iowa to Dr. Keyes in January. The momentum from that win will propel Dr. Keyes to the White House.

How's that effort going EV?

Bill

If your one vote could decide who the next President were going to be, and the choices were Mitt Romney and Alan Keyes, which one would you choose?

I don't know who I would choose if I were allowed to pick one of those two candidates and have the presidency given to him on my pick. I've heard that in his last campaign for the senate seat in Illinois, Dr. Keyes was talking about a kind of reparations for slavery based on some kind of tax break. I don't believe that we need any kind of reparations for slavery. That's a kind of flip-flop in the wrong direction. I think that there were other things he said during that campaign that I thought were crazy and surprised me to hear from him, but I don't remember (and don't care) what they were. I'd have a hard time voting for Dr. Keyes because he's become an unknown to me at this point. If he were still the man who I thought he was eight years ago, I'd probably choose him, but I'd need some way of knowing that he was that man.

I've said very clearly that my first choices in this race are Duncan Hunter and Jim Gilmore. If I were up there in Iowa where you are, I'd be trying to do everything I could to see that one of them did well in the upcoming straw poll. If I were in New Hampshire or South Carolina, I'd be planning to vote for one of them next January. If you'd asked the same question but substituted Duncan Hunter for Alan Keyes, the answer would be easy. I'd pick Duncan Hunter to be president over Mitt Romney.

In real life in 2007, some things are different. Dr. Keyes is out of the race completely. You're not going to be able to create a "draft Keyes" movement. Jim Gilmore has had two fair to poor debate performances. He's not showing any strength in any straw polls, and I've not heard of him building an organization to win the straw poll in Iowa. I don't think his campaign will survive this fall. Duncan Hunter does well in straw polls and does fair in the debates. He comes across as a serious man. I wish America were looking for a serious man. I suspect that by the time the primaries come to Louisiana, he'll be out of the race. Given the choices that I'll have at that time, likely Giuliani, Mitt Romney, and Fred Thompson, I think Mitt Romney will be the best choice.

But Romney has good looks, a vision, and backbone

Doesn't mean squat without a message.

Mitt Romney is a stone-cold liberal. Get real. No conservative worth the name should ever give him a vote for anything.

Jim Gilmore is no more pro-life than Mitt Romney is. What a joke.

For whatever reasons, your judgement is clouded.

It’s amazing to me that you’ll accept any kind of lying spin from Mitt Romney, rhetoric on the whole panoply of issues, that bears no relationship to his entire adult political life or record, but then you’ll accept the shallow, stupid interpretation media spin about what Alan Keyes said about one small issue...and that in a completely academic discussion that had nothing to do with any policy that he would support, or has ever supported.

Backbone? LOL...that’s funny, ain’t it.

He couldn’t even stand up to four out of control leftist judges. They threatened the legislature, who ignored them, and that scared Mitt so much he started marrying sodomites for them.

Nah! Mitt’s the man. The most attractice thing about Fred Thompson was his reticence to run. Like many have said, Fred’s best day will be the day he joins the race. After that — he’s just another candidate.

You’re no doubt just listening to MSM rumors. Get the real facts about Mitt Romney. Read Hugh Hewitt’s book, “A Mormom In The White House: Ten Things Every American Should Know About Mitt Romney.”

My judgement is fine. I'm not the one who tried to suggest that a grassroots movement would draft Alan Keyes to run next year. You're the one who's making a joke of himself.
