Europe furious at US climate call (Utter nonsense alert)
Financial Times ^ | June 1, 2007 | Fiona Harvey, Hugh Williamson ,

Posted on 06/01/2007 3:49:32 PM PDT by yoe

Germany and the European Commission reacted angrily to President George W. Bush’s apparent change of heart on climate change on Friday, setting the stage for a stormy G8 summit of rich industrialised countries next week.

A spokesman for Angela Merkel, Germany’s chancellor and current G8 president, said Germany’s stance that climate talks should take place within the United Nations was “non-negotiable”. Stavros Dimas, the EU environment commissioner, dismissed the proposals for climate talks as vague and “the classic US line”.

Mr Bush on Thursday appeared to suggest a parallel process to the UN, by which the world’s 15 biggest emitters of greenhouse gases would within 18 months “establish a new framework on greenhouse gases when the Kyoto protocol expires in 2012” and “set a long-term global goal on reducing emissions”.

His proposal marked a reversal of the US policy of refusing to discuss emissions cuts and rejecting a global framework such as Kyoto.

But the plans are starkly different from the proposal tabled by Germany for next week’s G8 summit, which would require leaders to agree to prevent global temperatures rising by more than 2 degrees Celsius and require stringent emissions cuts.

Attitudes within Europe hardened on Friday as some politicians and activists accused Mr Bush of trying to wreck next week’s summit, and UN negotiations on climate change, set to take place this December.

José Manuel Barroso, the European Commission president, told the Financial Times Mr Bush should be “more ambitious” and said the UN must “remain the basis for setting – and achieving – binding, measurable and enforceable targets”.

I believe that can be translated as using US tax dollars to bring about the impossible….Climate Change. So many jobs, careers etc. are on the line for global warming/climate change which any fool knows is a huge hoax. Ms. Pelosi just returned from Greenland and is now the expert on the unstoppable global warming….she is furious that green house gases, which are a part of nature, are not being taken as seriously as something like a plague. Plague happens over night; global warming will happen over hundreds of years getting a little warmer and getting a little cooler – you cannot stop it. China and India are excused from the clean up which America has done beautifully over the years and still doing. We can keep the environment healthy but only Mother Nature can work the controls on Nature. Algore reminds me of Elmer Gantry with his passionate preaching about the crisis de jure, it is making him tons of $$$$ selling Carbon Footprints to anyone foolish enough to buy them…..passing one foot print onto someone else really solves things doesn’t it.

Pelosi and her merry band of hooligans will never, repeat, never protect America from a real problem like terrorism…Nah, she would rather accept the hoax that the sky is falling....she could fly to Greenland for some photo ops but last week had no time to speak with General Petraeus, she obviously loathes the military, they are using $$$s she needs….besides she thinks she can win the Islamic terrorist over with a gentle talk and a slap on the wrist…and won’t let our bad ‘ol military bother them ever again.....G-d help us all.

Bush could impress me, not that he gives a rats ass what I think, by telling Europe, the U.N. and Pelosi, to stick their global warming where the sun don’t shine.

Your Elmer Gantry comparison is quite apt. Just substitute ''the environment'' or ''Mother Gaia'' for ''love'' in his most famous quote, and there you have it.

Very observant, wtg!!

Well, I guess that settles that! If Angela Merkel says “jump” we better be asking “how high?”

“prevent global temperatures rising by more than 2 degrees Celsius”

And, who is going to do the measuring of this temperature, over what period of time and what locations - oceans, how far inland and how far from the equator at what altitudes etc.?

These are the points to negotiate just for the temperature part.

Then we have punishment etc. to negotiate and whether China and India will participate because that involves most people and worst polluters yada, yada ...

And who will enforce? The UN? Good - that means nothing will come of it.

You got it.

The dims are congenitally unable to deal with real issues like:

Terrorism, social security, etc. They want more programs when the programs they already “oversee” like the FDA, Homeland Security (TB guy not stopped even when orders out on doing just that) are a joke.

They want immigration but don’t want the American people to know that so can’t be seen as moving on that. Thus they gen up this collossal P.T. Barnum hysteria in order to look busy and concerned about ... something.

It will be interesting to see how they punish volcanoes and other non-human phenomena capable of affecting the temperature.

We have some of the strictest emmissions and environmental standards in the world. When these countries match us standard for standard, then, and only then should we talk about further reductions.

Everytime I hear this “Europe is furious” crap, I ask myself, “Than, why are they voting in pro American candidates instead of the liberal trash they’ve had all these years?”

Why is there even a premise out there that the climate doesn’t change? So it’s getting warmer; so what?!? It was getting cooler just 30 years ago.
