IRVINE, Calif., June 6 (UPI) -- U.S. scientists say dirty snow might be as much to blame as greenhouse gases for a third or more of Arctic warming. U niversity of California-Irvine Associate Professor Charlie Zender said snow becomes dirty as the result of soot from vehicle tailpipes, smoke stacks and forest fires that enters the atmosphere and falls to the ground.
Soot-infused snow is darker than natural snow and dark surfaces absorb sunlight and cause warming, Zender said. Bright surfaces reflect heat back into space and cause cooling.
"When we inject dirty particles into the atmosphere and they fall onto snow, the net effect is we warm the polar latitudes," said Zender. "Dark soot can heat up quickly. It's like placing tiny toaster ovens into the snow pack."
The study appears in the Journal of Geophysical Research.
You better be CAREFUL with that thing! ...That atmospheric water vapor is a WAY bigger problem than CO2 will EVER be!
“...but one was sure a lot more expensive.”
Does it smell kind of like ammonia too?
Club More Seals! Bad seal, bad, bad seal
Is this the same outfit that says my barbecue grill is a major source of pollution as well, and has banned them (or tried to) in Kookoofornia....
That is a state-of-the-art, grade A, number 1, self-regulating, self-propelled, "Fuel Processing and Manufacturing Facility"....
The beauty of this plant is when it has outlived it's usefulness, it can be recycled, using only a knife and a barbecue grill! (Except in India.)
Natural soot, ie. volcanic dust, causes global cooling.
It's man made, specifically US soot that causes warming. /s

Rhythmic Submarine Volcanos And El NinosThe real cause of El Ninos is still obscure. However, the recent discovery of over 1,000 previously unmapped submarine volcanos rising from the seafloor in the eastern Pacific may lead to El Nino's source. The synchronous eruption of, say, 100 of these volcanos might warm the ocean around Easter Island a tad -- just enough to warm the atmosphere above a bit -- resulting in a shift of the high pressure area.

This would make a difference by advancing the day the snow melts by about half an hour.
May be?
MAY BE?
And you woke me for this?
Call me when you dorks get some real SCIENTIFIC proof.

ROTFLMPO...
Yep.
I keep telling people this. Some of the “RealClimate” folks have been trying to spread the BS that it was not “main stream scientists” who were saying “global cooling” & “Coming Ice Age” in the 60-70s ... they’re completely wrong. I attended seminars at Cornell where many “main stream scientists” concerned about the topic were treated to such possible solutions as “Spread Carbon Black” on deserts and ice and snow areas were proposed, among others. Another inconvenient truth for them.
That would make Indonesia and China the two worst polluters ...
Have you ever been to some parts of Asia where after 24 hours the black soot starts coming back up your mouth and nose?
