From the WaPo, word of the continuing GOP meltdown:
Senate Minority Whip Trent Lott (R-Miss.) said he has told the most virulent Republican opponents that he will not tolerate a raft of amendment votes designed simply to filibuster the measure, and he castigated his own party's senators for their vote switches.
"We're going to do this damned thing, and if we don't, I think we should dissolve the Congress and just go home," Lott fumed.
The sooner the Republican Senate caucus can find 41 votes to declare the bill beyond repair, the better of the GOP will be. The presidential ambitions of John McCain are smoldering as a result of the fire he started, and now the GOP's 49 seats look to take another major hit in the fall of '08.
During the early days of the Clown’s stint at the once-white House, some 900 FBI files, illegally at the WH, came up missing and were never found again. One Craig Livingston had brought them there, IIRC, and “lost control” over them. No one knows for sure WHOSE files were there, but it’s not hard to imagine...
I heard a radio news clip where Sen. Specter said, “If we don’t pass this bill the U.S. Senate will be the laughing stock of the world” or something to the aspect. Like it isn’t already. Dumbass.
What was the name of that character that was discovered to have stolen those FBI files (around 1997 was it?)?
Craig Livingston... the man nobody in the Clinton administration remembered hiring
This entire shamnesty bill is yet another demonstration of how out of touch many U.S. Sentaors have become. I’m convinced our Founding Fathers never envisioned that self-seeking individuals would attempt to make multiple decades long careers out of being congressional politicians. Many of these long-time out-of-touch politicians in Washington are causing great damage to our nation. We need congressional term limits immediately!
2 Terms maximum for U.S. Senators and 5 Terms maximum for U.S. Congressmen is more than enough.
Not if the candidates running are against illegal immigration!
We could retake both Houses!
This bill is really bringing out the true colors of these little caesars.
They mu$t have a great deal at per$onal $take here.
Speaking of sending them to Mexico, has anyone ever heard of a U.S. congressperson going on an official gov’t trip to Mexico? They seem to go everywhere else.
If this bill is defeated, it will save GOP seats.
If this bill had passed it would have destroyed the GOP, and that is what the Media was hoping.
We need to target in the primaries all of those who pushed this bill, like Lindsey Graham and get them out and put in grassroot conservatives.
Also, we need to retake the House, where it was stopped last time.
And ofcourse, elect a President who is not soft on this issue.
At least he accurately labeled the atrocity.
As to how much such corruption(Berger,Livington,...Abscam,Keating5...)piles up, I'd be interested in a good listing of the last 50 to 100 or so major Demorat corruption incidents on record. Know of any such listing?
Calling Bush "soft" on immigration could win you the Understatement of the Year Award.
It was written by The American Thinker's Thomas Lifson and while I always like to think I can express my own self, in this case Lifsun did a wonderful job of summing up the problems with so-called "comprehensive" immigration reform.
Read it yourself and see if you don't feel like finally, FINALLY, someone gets it.
"About all I can say for the United States Senate is that it opens with a prayer and closes with an investigation."
-Will Rogers
Allow me to hold the door open.
And don’t let it hit you on your back side on your way out!
It is always safer for everybody when they are in recess. The next best thing is gridlock.
Our brilliant Founders did not intend for these bozos to be elected directly by the people but by the State legislatures where they could be held accounatable by the states and closer to the people.
The 17th Amendment has been a total failure because the Senators get 6 years to screw us over with practically no accountability to the states.
Typical Beltway blab. He thinks doing "something" is better than doing "nothing" - even if "something" is folly.
Empty Lott needs to be retired along with the rest of the Senators who think they are our House Of Lords instead of our employees who represent us, not foreigners!
If the proposed bill is so great, then someone is doing a p*ss poor job of explaining it to the American public.
It’s time for Congress to come out of the shadows and explain it.
