From the WaPo, word of the continuing GOP meltdown:
Senate Minority Whip Trent Lott (R-Miss.) said he has told the most virulent Republican opponents that he will not tolerate a raft of amendment votes designed simply to filibuster the measure, and he castigated his own party's senators for their vote switches.
"We're going to do this damned thing, and if we don't, I think we should dissolve the Congress and just go home," Lott fumed.
The sooner the Republican Senate caucus can find 41 votes to declare the bill beyond repair, the better of the GOP will be. The presidential ambitions of John McCain are smoldering as a result of the fire he started, and now the GOP's 49 seats look to take another major hit in the fall of '08.
All my family down in Mississippi don’t wantthis turkey back. They hope he stays in D.C., where they like his kind of backstabbing and doubletalkin’ B.S. Lott is a disgrace to the state of Mississippi, a disgrace to all Americans, and wears a funky hairpiece to boot!
Sounds like Lott. He said something similar about the Clinton impeachment. Something to the effect “I don’t even care if there was a dead girl, we’re not removing him” or something to that effect.
Remember the Martians in the movie Mars Attacks? ROFL they came in and blew away Congress.
Trench Lott must have some heavy duty money on the line in this battle. Remember he loves law suits and is probably in the pockets of trial lawyers because all these illegals get free legal help.

That rat’s behind can tell me to drop dead all he wants: he cannot take my job away, but I can take his. He would do well to remember that. And he will have it shoved in his face in ‘08.
Just one quibble - that would be a singularly inappropriate comment for the nutless wonder Trent Lott, unless he keeps it in a jar!
Yeah, Majority Leader Sessions would be cool.
Maybe Misissippi can replace Lott with a Mexican that'll work and work cheaper.....;-)
Now why is Trent Lott having a hissy fit over this?

they can adjourn but must have approval of other house for periods of more than 3 days during a session of congress (us cons. Art 1. Sec 5 para 4). President can force them to come back (art 2 sec 2 par 3)
