Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas has dismissed the Hamas-led government and declared a state of emergency, reports say. Aides to Mr Abbas said the president will call elections as soon as possible in an effort to end fighting between Hamas and Fatah in the Gaza Strip.
Mr Abbas will now rule the West Bank and Gaza by presidential decree.
Hamas fighters have overrun much of Gaza, capturing key security buildings and hailing Gaza's "liberation".
Aides to Mr Abbas said he dismissed the Palestinian Prime Minister, Ismail Haniya of Hamas, and was preparing to appoint an independent as prime minister.
The BBC's Matthew Price in Jerusalem says that once the decree is signed, the West Bank and Gaza Strip will effectively be split from one another - Gaza run by Hamas and the West Bank by Fatah.

The lesson here is that when one spends too much time trying to appease the unappeasable they will lose everything including the ability to appease anyone.

Unless they get help....which they may...from Egypt.
I think Fatah could lose this fight.
Hamas seems able to fight conventionally a bit....different from blowing up women and kids.
i’m sorry for the innocents but as far as adult male muzzies....I sure won’t miss em

Abbas was the chief financier of the 1972 Munich Massacre.
Anything that old terrorist gets he deserves.
And I'm ashamed that this President found common cause with him.

Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas has dismissed the Hamas-led government... Yeah, that'll work.
To: wardaddy
It really pisses me off to see the Hamas and Fatah terrorists toting M-16s, too.

Mr Abbas will now rule the West Bank and Gaza by presidential decree - Wow he could have a life time job, it will only last about 48-72 hours though.

Yeah let us blame GW for everything. Pretty pathetic thinking. I guess Israel finding common cause with Abbas over Hamas will catch you ire too.

Hamas fighters have overrun much of Gaza, capturing key security buildings and hailing Gaza's "liberation". So Gaza was really being occupied by Fatah all along?

I guess Israel finding common cause with Abbas over Hamas will catch you ire too. Actually, yes, it does.

I don’t care if you’re the Prime Minister of Israel or the President of the United States. Dealing with known terrorists is wrong.
Abbas was Arafat’s right hand for decades. They practically invented modern terrorism as a political tool.
Treating with them rewards their actions.
Kill them all, no matter what they call themselves.
