Washington, D.C. – The U.S. House of Representatives this morning voted to withhold federal emergency services funding for "sanctuary cities" that protect illegal immigrants.

Anti-immmigration champion Rep. Tom Tancredo, R-Colo., sponsored the measure, which he says would apply to cities such as Denver and Boulder. He was elated by its passage, which stunned critics and supporters alike.

How funny - my second ping here. I just finished work - this evil head writer added nearly 100 review comments (95) with stuff she should have told me about earlier. Argh, I’m so aggravated. I’m going to shut down for a bit, can’t take this amnesty stuff one more second.

Thank you for the great words on email - hopefully I’ll be back in a bit.

I wouldn’t get your hopes up, it really means nothing. Once the ACLU and the courts get to it, it will be toast. For the children.

Same with all the penalties and enforcement provisions in the AMNESTY Bill, they will never be enforced. No enforcement, no revenue no fence. No fence the next wave will even be bigger.

Last one in the hammock has to pay.

our Mexican President will never sign this sanctuary legislation into law

Do you think regular people in a town facing an emergency should be penalized by the actions of the jerks at city hall?

It's a tough call, actually; although I'm glad to see someone b**ch slapping those jerks.

Bush will veto it. Besides, if they pass his amnesty, it will be a moot point since all the criminal aliens will become “legal”.

Certain blue dog Democrats that ran against amnesty are starting to get scared with their seats up next year and the Republicans they defeated ready to tell the constituents they lied about amnesty, and most Republicans in the House were solid to begin with.

If the people in the Senate had a brain cell among them they would get a clue. They isn’t going to go away. This betrayal will not be forgotton. They will pay whether it be next year or 5 years down the line. Conservatives don’t forget, and they are dependent on conservative votes in a majority of states.

Threaten us Lott? We aren’t making threats. We’re establishing a promise.

Very good sign that if the Senate does happen to pass some abomination of a bill the House will shoot it down faster that Lindsay Graham can say “xenophobia!”

This is all about cover—the left will vote now for the tough amendments, and then the bill will have the teeth amended out in conference committee.

It’s a true bi-partisan issue. Not like the shams the Lords in the Senate claim are bi-partisan. This is the closest I have felt to Liberals in years. Feels nice, actually, to be working together against our common enemy. The Corrupt in our Government. seeing as how those Lords have done their best to help divide us in their partisan schemes to hold office, I’d rather share air space with one of them then EVER be within a mile of Trent Lott’s or Teddy’s odious scent.

You're missing the point of why many of us are happy about Tancredo's win in the House: It shows that the passage of Bush's amnesty won't happen. Bush cannot win amnesty for illegals without the House. The House just told both the Senate and Jorge that they are voting solidly against illegal aliens.

You’re right! I guess it’s the below lumping of INS with DHS that I still find some issues with.

“Other examples of non-homeland-security duties that DHS discharges are disaster relief administered by FEMA and immigration services previously performed by the INS.”

The Dems and Rino’s can easily argue that “the money is for the Defense of our Homeland”, and I don’t like them having that edge. Besides The OMB even states on their homepage that they it’s hard to follow the funds...

“Distinguishing between activities aimed at making the U.S. homeland more secure against terrorist attacks and those directed toward other purposes is not always easy.”

http://www.cbo.gov/ftpdoc.cfm?index=5414&type=0

Just a personal moan and groan :) Tancredo did what he needed to do, and my hat’s off to him. Thanks for addressing that issue. Many (lurkers, etc.) are not aware of how all the funding works these days.

The INS department, a designation no longer used, is under the jurisdiction of the DHS. Currently CBP, ICE, CIS, FEMA, TSA, USCG, Secret Service and other agencies report directly to the Director of DHS. They all fall under bills authorizing spending by DHS. See the DHS organization chart below:
