Washington, D.C. – The U.S. House of Representatives this morning voted to withhold federal emergency services funding for "sanctuary cities" that protect illegal immigrants.

Anti-immmigration champion Rep. Tom Tancredo, R-Colo., sponsored the measure, which he says would apply to cities such as Denver and Boulder. He was elated by its passage, which stunned critics and supporters alike.

Tom is the only one out there that has all the issues under his belt.

This will be his greatest achievement. He’ll never be POTUS, but he’s a good man. He’s got America’s best interests at heart. Is it wishful thinking he might use his brief exposure to drop out and endore Hunter or Thompson? Or even Hunter Thompson (a dead man with strong Second Amendment credentials would be preferable to McCain).

I think the threat of witholding services will cause the cities to rescend their policies. When states and cities stand to lose federal funds they tend to change policy rapidly. I don’t think it is just a symbolic act- anything tied to money has teeth.

Go Tom! You may not have the name recognition to be the hot presidential candidate, but you are, as always, the one most willing to put his money where his mouth is...

God bless!

If nothing else, this immig mess gives the GOP something to differentiate from the sitting President.

Don't they though? They were almost crawling over each other to show how they didn't believe in the amnesty bill during the debates (except for McCain, who looked like he'd rather have not been there!).

So, you think that Rudy would rule as a conservative, including illegal immigration? (I really don't know, so I'm asking because I think you've followed his career and his decisions for quite a while. After the Bush fiasco, I am reluctant to back anyone anymore...)

Tancredo didn’t vote on his own bill? And Sessions didn’t either?

Three of the six Ft Dix attackers lived in sanctuary cities in NJ. They were stopped numerous times for traffic violations by local LE. If they did not live in those cities, their illegal status would have been discovered and they would have been deported. Instead they were allowed to stay to plan the attacks. If fate was not so good, and the electronic store clerk did not report the video, some of my DoD fellow workers could have ended up in body bags. The detriment of sanctuary cities have already struck America. It was close enough to make it personal for me. No one has raised this issue in court yet, because sanctuary cities allow illegals to be protected from deportation, and it gives them a place to hatch other schemes to bypass employment laws such as ID theft. Utah just released a survey of their own state benefits records and found up to 20,000 SSN do not match other official records. Illegal immigrants are the main suspect. Sanctuary cities are contributing to a public nusiance by ignoring a federal regulation designed to protect this nation and the injured parties should have the right to sue them. It is no different from a city that publicly declares that they would ignore FDA laws and tainted food got out of their city to poison another community. The city can be liable for ignoring a federal law. Tragedy has already struck the US due to sanctuary cities, and that was 9/11 with nine of the 19 attackers who were illegal immigrants living in sanctuary cities.

They were probably rustling up votes and missed the call or perhaps out campaigning.

Jim, please advise us on what to do.

Bush seems to have a perverse affinity for illegals, yet, concommitantly is trashing the very dedicated conservatives who have kept him in power. This bill is anathema to everything a true conservative holds dear.

You are a wise man....advice?

Aren’t they though? And from out of the blue, too. Perhaps that was their message. I imagine they are hearing from irate constituents as well, in anticipation of the amnesty bill going to the House. I hope this vote means they’re taking our opinions seriously. (Since they only have a year until their fate is on the line.)

Sessions is a senator, and I’m sure Tancredo knew it would pass, so if he was in his office theres no reason for him to go vote on it if he knows it will pass. Maybe he was celebrating?

All in all, congratulations to him for getting this passed. It probably won’t ever become law, but it would be nice.
