Abandoning the Party when they don’t fully act how I would like gives the Democrats and the Left more power and encouragement. I will, therefore, work harder to reform the Party to the conservative greatness that is its’ standard. I don’t back down from a fight for my values, just like I don’t abandon my friends.
So take it back. Not payback. Playing revenge only hurts America. Not everyone in the Party falls into your catagories. Are you up for the hard work, or would you rather retreat to “feel good” land?
Your stupidity is astounding!
The giant sucking sound is created by those engaging in “pie in the sky” foolishness.
“We dont need a new party. Im afraid. We need a new country. This one is broken beyond repair. I suggest we gather a bunch of freepers and form a new government, based on the founders principals.”
Need a new country? Broken beyond repair? Gather a bunch of freepers and form a new government? If the country is broken beyond repair then all the Freepers together couldn’t put it back together again. I used to see the glass half empty when I was Democrat. But now that I took off the rose colored glasses and am a proud Republican, I see things much clearer. The glass is half full. This country is still the greatest on Earth. Anyone who think otherwise should look somewhere else. And with all due respect to FR, I think alot of FReepers are Armchair Patriots. I have been begging FReepers for over two years to get out there on the street corner against the moonbats, and rarely has anyone shown up. So if you think that people are going to work to fix the problems....
That was funny...............seriously.
*snork*
No question that this is the greatest country on the face of the Earth. But we have long ceased being a representative republic. We are ruled by an oligarchy who only make pretensions of listening to the public. Like a broken clock, they get it right every once and a while, and we foolishly go back to the polls and re-elect them in gratitude. On immigration —or the alien invasion as I call it— national defense, spending, government growth, trade, and any number of issues, the administration and Republican party have walked away from its core principles.
The only reason they are acceptable is that the democrat-socialist-communist party is abominable.
When border patrol agents are arrested and thrown in jail for doing their job, and courts overturn centuries of established procedures in dealing with enemies, the system is well beyond repair.
We need a reformation from the top to bottom, as Jefferson suggested would be necessary periodically.
Remember that it was a small group who led the revolution against England. A small group could do it again.
I do not believe that we are ruled by an oligarchy. Since you do, please, name them. I agree with many of your assertions especially illegal immigration. However, certain issues like spending must be examined as to why it has taken place, or we fall into acceptance of the common thought, which is not always correct.
We are in perfect position for doing exactly what you said was needed...a return to the basics. But in order to do so you must believe that the Party is not irrevocably broken or that we are ruled by oligarchy. I will work with those that wish to get back to basics rather than flee in a feel good moment to some third party. It is perplexing that anyone who go Independent given that all parties are run by people, how would one not end up in the same position as that which they left.
The oligarchy is the Washington-set think that sucks in the elected. Go to D.C. as a conservative, and in a few years you’re a just little to the right of everyone else, but you’re OK on the cocktail/party/Meet the Press circuit. example: A reasonably conservative George W. gets elected and soon looks like Nelson Rockefeller.
One of the essential ingredients at the founding was a government made up of citizens, not career politicians. I know I’m preaching to the choir, but how far have we moved from those ideas? And what are the chances, short of —dare I say— revolution, of getting back to it? Even the sainted Ronald Reagan was unable to do more than stem the tide for a while. And almost all the progress he made withered away under GHW, let alone BJ and W.
Is there a solution? I’m willing to be convinced, but right now I’m so depressed it’s going to take something akin to Paul’s conversion.
