The Speech Bush Will Never Make (An Act Of Humility Would Restore The President's Fortunes Alert)
Worldnetdaily.com ^ | 06/29/2007 | Joseph Farah

President Bush's public approval ratings are at an all-time low. It's difficult to imagine how he could improve them dramatically with just about 18 months left in office.

But I do believe there is one speech he could make that would instantly increase his popularity by 50 percent to 100 percent. It's a speech he will never give. Here is a rough draft of the text:

"My fellow Americans, I come before you today to admit a mistake and correct our course.

"I have made my case for comprehensive immigration reform as the proper way to address concerns over our border and the presence in our country of millions of undocumented workers.

"But I have failed to persuade the people of my convictions on this issue.

"Because America is a nation of immigrants, I believed – and still believe – that we can continue to absorb and assimilate millions of good, honest, decent, hard-working foreigners into our country.

"As I have said many times, I do not believe family values stop at the Rio Grande.

"In my opinion, the immigration course my administration has attempted to chart – one that would identify millions of undocumented workers already in this country and give them a pathway to citizenship – was the right one.

"There comes a time in responsible leadership when you must recognize you are out of step with the people. America is a sovereign nation governed by the rule of law and the will of the people.

"While I have done my best to convince the American people to my way of thinking, it is time to admit that is not going to happen during my tenure in the White House.

"Therefore, I am making this public announcement, for the benefit of members of Congress and in the interest of unifying our divided country: I have heard you speak, America. While I may disagree, while I may wish you were saying something else, while I would prefer you had heard me, I will honor your will on the issue of immigration and border security.

"The American people have spoken. What you have said is clear. You demand the federal government first secure our border and vigorously enforce immigration laws already on the books.

"Today I am issuing an executive order instructing all departments of the executive branch to do just that.

"Real border security will be our highest priority. And real enforcement of existing immigration laws will begin today – without excuses and without fail.

"There's one more thing I would like to add.

"I want to apologize for flouting the will of the American people for so long. I want to apologize for my arrogance in pushing my own personal opinion for so long and so hard without listening to yours. I want to apologize for failing to do my duty as President in enforcing immigration laws.

"I will not be with you as President for much longer. In January 2009, I will hand over the reins of power to a successor. When I do, I intend to leave office with a clear conscience and the knowledge that I upheld my oath of office, followed the rule of law and attempted to adhere to the will of the people.

"I made mistakes, but I hope the American people will be forgiving and understand that I always earnestly sought to do what I believed was right."

The American people are forgiving of human mistakes - especially mistaken policies - when their leader displays an act of humility before them and seeks it. No question the kind of speech Joseph Farah lays out, if President Bush delivered it and followed upon it, would restore his fortunes and bring him back into the good grace of the American people. After all, we both want to see our Presidents succeed and we want to like them. Yet in all likelihood, its the speech Bush will never make. What a pity.

No way would I, as the president, cowtow to sympathy.

An easy after the fact speech, dull too.

There is a common thread that runs through the halls of government and the boardrooms of corporate America - never, EVER, admit that you made a mistake or that you were wrong in any way. Then attempt to destroy anyone who tries to expose the error of your ways.

There is no accountability (except for medical providers and police) and there is certainly no humility exhibited by the power elites.

He’ll never do it.

But, yeah, in the blink of an eye something like this would reverse his fortunes in the space of the year and a half he has remaining.

Since Bush & company won’t admit their mistakes, why don’t we start impeachment against Chertoff in the House of Representatives for violating his oath of office and failing to enforce our immigration laws...also pushing for rewarding lawbreaking-which is inducing ilegal entry...8 usc 1324

(iv) encourages or induces an alien to come to, enter, or reside in the United States, knowing or in reckless disregard of the fact that such coming to, entry, or residence is or will be in violation of law; or
(v)
(I) engages in any conspiracy to commit any of the preceding acts, or
(II) aids or abets the commission of any of the preceding acts,
shall be punished as provided in subparagraph (B).

He’s gonna keep blaming CONgress over and over like a broken record or something...

CONgress CONgress CONgress...

Congress listened to the American people. It actually did it’s job.

I guess that doesn’t sit to well with The Decider.

You presume that the President will take this defeat as a sign that he must be in the wrong, but there’s no reason to think that he would believe such.

Whatever faults this President has, lack of principals isn’t one of them; he would only give this speech if he really has a change of heart.

His predecessor would not have hesitated to “atone” - I for one don’t want to go back to the days of Rule By Poll.

Did I not hear this ball head saying that if we do NOT vote for this amnesty bill, he would NOT enforce following the current law on this matter???

No thank you.
I do not require nor want an abject George Bush.
I do not want his apology.
I want him to do what he swore he would do.
Protect and defend this country against all enemies, foreign and domestic, and BUILD A BORDER WALL OR FENCE OR BARRIER that will do the job of keeping this nation secure.
The art of law enforcement and security became a science some years ago, and it is not all that difficult to reduce the threats against this country by a huge degree.
Don't Apologize Mr.President, do your damn job.

"As I have said many times, I do not believe family values stop at the Rio Grande."

The U.S. border, on the other hand, does.

An even better speech Bush could make:

"Ladies and Gentlemen, I will resign the Presidency effective immediately."
