So I pose this question-if diversity is so bad, then should we not return to the segregated ways of earlier times?Let whites be with whites, blacks be around only blacks and keep everyone apart.
I don’t want that. The reality is diversity is here to stay and I am NOT one who thinks it is all sweetness and light.Lots of problems accompany it.Yet the world is getting MORE diverse, not less and thats just the way it is.

I'm sure it's just me, or just a blip in the time-stream, but over the past few weeks or so, I seem to find (even outside of FR) many articles and books which are now showing things like:

Diversity doesn't work
FDR didn't rescue us from the Depression
Progressism causes problems, doesn't solve them
Islam is a violent religion
Democrats have no ideas

Is it too much to hope that the world is waking up? I see the 20th century as a long nightmare -- from WWI on -- in which the forces of civilization fought a holding action against the destroyers. With Ronald Reagan, we began to make up some ground, but the past 20 years have been achingly slow. Is it possible that the Good Guys are getting some momentum now?

Since this is all very perplexing to the "progressive" Putnam, who hangs out at Harvard, allow me to save the good professor from another future shock.

Just one man's opinion, but from reading Bowling Alone, he never really struck me as a lib.

If what I just wrote made you sad or angry,
it was probably just a joke.

Very true - here is Fred Reed’s take on Diversity madness -”The greatest desire of humanity . . . is avoiding diversity. Mostly, people can’t stand each other. I respect their opinion”.

The Trouble With Forced Diversity
by Fred Reed

Explain it to me, diversity. I don’t get it. Everyone in the feddle gummint and all the news weasels and the academia nuts and assorted distasteful do-gooders with goiterous self-admiration are always honking and blowing about how we need diversity. Why? What is it good for?

I think we need homogeneity. Probably the greatest desire of humanity other than getting sex is avoiding diversity. Mostly, people can’t stand each other. I respect their judgement.

Diversity causes nothing but trouble. Think about it. Do old people want to hang around young people? No. Do young people want to hang around old people? Generally they would rather take poison. Do liberals and conservatives want to get within rifle range of each other? No. Except conservatives, because they have rifles. Southerners and damyanks cordially detest each other, except after a few beers, when they stop being cordial. Urban folk and country folk loathe each other. Management and labor, Marine boneheads and army pukes, dogs and cats, on and on, don’t nobody much like nobody.

So why do we spend so much sweat and money trying to force people to do what they don’t want to do? It’s all bass-ackwards. What if we tried…well…freedom? What if the gummint just left people the hell alone?

Naahhhh . . .

Google Fred Reed and Diversity for the rest of the article.

This will probably be used to justify having all of us attend “diversity sensitivity training” at a government-run reeducation camp.

The Left “Celebrates Diversity,” but unifying influences such as patriotism, nationalism and the voluntary assimilation of immigrants, do not serve their ultimate goals.

They want One World, not One Country.

The idea of Diversity has been ruined. It never struck me as overly bright concept to begin with. It as if one were to say the more unique parts involved in building something the better it will be. The space shuttle is a wonderful example of diversity if this is the true.

The problem that leaves a bad taste in my mouth and mind when it comes to diversity is that it operates under the concept that all differences are strengths and all add something of value to a system. This couldn’t be further from the truth. I value far more an emphasis on those things that among human beings allow us to relate to each other than a cacophony of differences.

Diversity as it is used by the left today is as a way to prevent and discourage rational critical thinking when it comes to behaviors and ideas they wish to promote. As long as you keep people from thinking about the details and gliding along at a fairly high level with the “feel good” idea of diversity one can not get hung up on whether a certain behavior or idea is positive or negative.

It is not surprising that diversity has become a poison even as it has been proposed as a remedy for the ills of racial and other prejudices. Diversity is a quality of a system and is no more inherently good or bad than the homogeneity of a cake. The sad result of the modern catch word culture is that it allows single words like “diversity” to be elevated to a status apart from any substance they may have once had.
So in the dictionary of words granted liberal saint hood “diversity” is now uttered like some arcane tenant of a religion more appropriate for use in describing a 70s disco dance floor than any practical social structure.

Activism alternates with escapism, unhappiness with ennui.

The ultimate escapism is the Cult of Global Warming: Forget saving Social Security-Medicare, border security and Islamic terrorism, and other real life issues, let's pour money into schemes to save the planet for the next millenium--even though there is little agreement on causes or solutions.

Tell a Gore sycophant to check his brains at the door on his way back to the Dark Ages.

It amuses me that man is the only species capable of embracing diversity as a goal when every other form of nature opposes it.

Species are meant to dominate their environment. It is not by accident that the dominant species of plant from west of the Alleghenies to the foothills of the Rockies, from Texas to Saskatchewan are grasses. They force out virtually all other species to ensure the survival of their own.

The places where you see the greatest diversity are at the edges of competing environments - the seashore and the edge of the forest come to mind. This is where the conflict is greatest and thus, the greatest competition for resources exists.

So it really doesn't surprise me that the author figured out that the greater the diversity, the greater the conflict as species or subsets of species compete for control of everything within there select environment. Los Angeles is an excellent example of how screwed up things get when 'diversity' is public policy.
