“So I pose this question-if diversity is so bad, then should we not return to the segregated ways of earlier times?”

Left to their own devices, that’s what people do and have always done. The segregation you refer to was government mandated. Not good. People should be free to make their own choices, and they do. Quite often, these choices are not “politically correct”.

The government did not mandate separate TV networks, magazines, clothing lines, language, and colleges exclusively for certain groups but they exist. They exist because of self-segregation. The basis in thought for that is, “Our group is different from others and should have it’s own unique stuff”. Essentially the same argument as the hated segregationists from the ‘60’s.

When people of color segregate themselves, it’s applauded as cultural enlightenment. When whites do it, it’s racist segregation.

Simply put, a Republic cannot survive as a whole with a huge disparity of cultures. These huge disparities always conflict with each other. They will eventually be at each others throats over representation, perceived “rights”, power, land and riches. One culture will always be dominant, it’s just a question of which one. The culture war is real and happening right now.

I agree that conflict is inevitable when different cultures try to occupy the same place.Yet struggle and conflict is part of life and always has been.
And it is true there is such a thing as natural segregation.I recognize it but am not comfortable with it.I always enjoyed the company of different people, both ethnically and culturally.Yet I was never one to advocate that “whitey was the devil”.
Too many other devils out there not of the Caucasian Persuasion!

Excellent statement of the truth!

20 or so years ago when I was a student at Auburn University, the school was sued because they did not have an adequate or “representative” number of blacks enrolled.

We did have a number of black student there. Just not enough in the eyes of the do-gooders.

The REAL reason that that was the case is simple and had nothing to do with segregation or racism:Tuskeegee Institute was about 16 miles down the road and was the choice of many blacks.

But AU still had to waste money defending themselves from charges that they were a segregated institution.

This kind of crap has set race relations in this country back years. People resent the hell out of this kind of BS.
