“Thogh less true today, just try bringing a black friend, particularly one of the opposite sex,to an all white function and see the looks you get.”
Wow, “looks”. Reverse that scenario and “looks” will likely be the least of your worries.
No,not really. The only time I ever ran into any drama with a black female companion was coming out of the White Horse Lounge on North Claiborne in New Orleans back in 1976 and some of the brothers wanted to “talk shit”.
The funny thing that her HUSBAND was still inside the club so it wasn’t like we were a “couple”.
But the homeys didn’t know that.
I do agree, however, that whites aren’t the only bigots around.I think I have been rather fortunate that not to many people have tried to revoke my”ghetto pass”
Amen. This one way racism crap is just that - crap. The idea that whites as a whole are somehow more “racist” or evil then other groups is pure BS and in fact an argument could be made that just the opposite is true.
There is some truth in most of these posts. My truth is that absent the pushiness and proclamations of the academics and the Jesse Jackson types, people get along just fine and find like-minded people to associate with
As a military wife, we lived in integrated communities and I (blonde, southern) had some black friends, one especially good one. We taught in the same school and socialized; our children played together; our same age little girls spent the nights at her place/my place. However, when we went to a party they gave and we were the only white couple there, we were treated by some to suspicion and rudeness. Same when I signed up to bowl and the only team needing another person was an all black team(all women). Most were nice, but one made rude and snide digs all the time. I considered her a J.Jackson convert.
I always realized that my southernness was suspect as much or more than my skin color, but, in truth, I don't think we southerners are as racist as many Yankees.
My truth is that we in the US have so much natural diversity, we don't need any forced on us by elites. If they would just but out, the melting pot would finally work through peoples' natural gregariousness, willingness to help, and to care..
