Hot Air: NBC's 'Emotional Terrorism' Following 'Bogus' Armor Report

Posted by Dave Pierre on July 4, 2007 - 10:43.

Via Bryan Preston at Hot Air:

On May 17, NBC reported a blockbuster exclusive on the superiority of Dragon Skin body armor over Interceptor, the body armor that the US Army issues to soldiers in combat zones. But NBC’s story has a major flaw: It’s wrong about nearly everything.

Watch the latest installment of Hot Air's Vent and actually hear an Army official, Brigadier General Mark Brown, conclude that NBC News possibly committed "emotional terrorism" after airing an "exclusive" segment on body armor. The segment, aired by NBC senior correspondent Lisa Myers, was "simply bogus," concludes Preston.

Check it out.

Whenever I watch any MSM story on the military, they generally start the program with the usual line - “we support the troops, and gee they have a difficult job” story line. But, it does not take long for the story to degenerate in the hit piece that MSM really wants to get out there. The story usually then goes into how either the troops are murderers, rapists, dumb, victims, etc, etc. Just pick the adjective.

It appears to me that the media is so anxious to make our military look bad that they jump on any excuse to run critical stories. Is it that they are so anxious to scoop other news sources or are they actually tryin to undermine our country with stories of a dubious nature.

I suppose we all must make our own decision on that one,but so many stories have been proven false, and so much of what they report is either totally made up or proven to be reported from the wrong perspective that more and more I believe the media is actually trying to sabotage our country.

Just another “rigged fuel tank” story. These people have no conscience.

In an investigative report broadcast by NBC May 20, the network used the expert opinion of Dr. Phillip Coyle - the former director of test and evaluation at the Pentagon during the Clinton administration - to certify results of side-by-side tests conducted at NBC’s expense in Germany.

But after being confronted with conflicting information by lawmakers who questioned the NBC test results and provided Army-supplied data of vest failures from a May 2006 test, Coyle backed away from his staunch defense of Dragon Skin.

“You’re saying today ... that you cannot say that it’s ready for prime time. That’s your testimony?” Rep. Duncan Hunter (R-Calif.) asked Coyle.

As an old TV newsie, I amazed by this story.

In the wake of Rather’s descent into pervasive partisan politics, the nets should be double checking everything that gets anywhere near the broadcast.

Old CBS friends confirm that in the course of the Memogate investigation, it was openly discussed and confirmed that Rather had accepted $20,000 to deliver a speech to Texas Democrats. In my newsroom, he would have been out the door 5 minutes after that was confirmed.... and in this case, Rather admitted it.

This latest story was done purely to generate ratings. The MSM’s traditional anti-military bias was part of it, but it was more “let’s scare people so they will watch.” That’s what my old stomping ground has become; an electronic version of the National Enquirer or Weekly World News. (Full disclosure, I have friends at WWN and love to suggest outrageous stories to them.)

These days the only difference between the network news and the National Enquirer is that the Enquirer, although about as accurate as network news, doesn’t have a political ax to grind.

Remember when NBC created the fake "expose'" of exploding gas tanks on GM pickup trucks? In a subsequent lawsuit, NBC stipulated that the photographed vehicles had been destroyed. In fact, GM found the vehicles, and purchased them from a recycling facility with the pyrotechnic devices still installed! NBC not only lied to the public, they lied to the courts.

NBC obviously has a history of producing fake news that goes back for, at least, decades. Why anyone, at all, still wastes their time on broadcast news is beyond me.

Jim Magee was called everything but a poser in this piece, so I got to ask is he an actual Marine or a wannabee?

Webb City, Missouri’s own Lisa Myers should have called back home before she did the report. She could have at least gotten more reliable information from local shooters than was used in the report.

Here is a look at the NASCAR rednecks try to kill innocent Muslims story:

Dateline NBC has become a very twisted show. I would rather watch nothing.

Here they go again. They (MSM) did it in Vietnam now they are doing it here (now they do it with “we support the troops but not the war” approach).
Probably in 30 years there will be a book called “Stolen Valor 2 Iraq”.

Read the real book Stolen Valor by B.G. Burkett. That book really opened my eyes on Vietnam but especially on MSM. That's my two cent

I remember Colonel David Hunt almost made Lisa Myers cry on O’Reily talking about an anti-IED system that was made in Israel.
