German police are trying to identify a man they believe to be British, who has a detailed knowledge of military planes but cannot tell them where he comes from.
Karl has been named 'the pilot'
The man, who calls himself Karl, has been cared for in a nursing home. He was found in a confused state in the city of Heidelberg three days ago.
Echoing the case of the "piano man" in England, Karl is known as "the pilot" to staff because of his knowledge of military aircraft.
A spokesman said the man, who speaks fluent English but throws German words into conversation, told police that he used to fly military planes.
They believe he comes from southern England "because he uses expressions which are typical for this region". However, police say the man apparently has amnesia.
Karl is about 5ft 5in, has a 10in scar on his stomach and is balding save for silver streaks of hair around his ears. He was first taken to the Mannheim Central Institute for Mental Health, and is now staying at a nursing home in Heiligkreuzsteinach.
Karl's situation is not dissimilar to that of the "piano man", a German who was found walking on a beach in Sheerness, Kent, in 2005.
Staff caring for the man who would not speak, said he drew pictures of pianos and when presented with the instrument "played beautifully".
Saw the movie, not that great.
Didn’t he divorce Christy Brinkley many years ago?
Is that you, Elaine ? ;-)
IIRC he was eventually identified, but I don’t think it was ever really established whether he’d been faking his amnesia. I don’t really care much about virtuoso piano players faking amnesia. Guys with detailed knowledge of military aircraft are a more serious matter.
And also Kasper Hauser.
From what I remember, he was a fraud
Well he supposedly hails from Britain, so wouldn’t Piltdown Man be a better name? Nice sculpture by the way.
*groan*
Maybe the guy is really John Titor.
My first thought, too.
thanks.
On the bright, this guy was just wandering around.
IIRC, the last time a "pilot" with "mental problems" was in Germany, he stole a small plane and tied up the Frankfurt airport for a few hours.
It’s George Carlin!
How do they know he’s a pilot?
Because he has a big watch and a little d...
