The Left Wing and a Prayer: Democrats try to squeeze secular and religious voters under one tent.

In a speech on Tuesday, Barack Obama told his audience that the 2008 presidential election would answer the question: "What kind of America will our daughters grow up in?" What, one might wonder, does he want to protect our daughters from? An oversexualized culture? Predators on the Internet? Alas, no. Mr. Obama was addressing a Planned Parenthood convention and worried that if the wrong person got into the White House, our daughters might grow up in a country without . . . partial-birth abortions.

Polls conducted by the Pew Forum on Religion and Public Life show that Americans believe the Democrats to be less friendly to faith than they had been even a few years ago. Yet a donkey with a halo over his head graces the cover of Time magazine this week and the story inside chronicles "How the Democrats Got Religion." From faith working groups to faith breakfasts, Mr. Obama, Hillary Clinton and John Edwards are all participating in what strategist Mike McCurry tells Time is "a Great Awakening in the Democratic Party."

And as far as Leslie Brown is concerned, the Democrats are making progress. Ms. Brown, the coordinator of the Faith in Action initiative at the Democratic National Committee, says she is working for a "big tent party," with plenty of room for people of faith. She tells me, for instance, that "evangelicals often get painted in broad strokes, as a monolith," but they're not. Efforts to get these potential swing voters include speeches by DNC chair Howard Dean at various religious institutions and the addition of both national and local religious leaders to the organization's advisers.

[NOW president] Kim Gandy [...] recently said in a speech, "I don't want a progressive evangelical movement any more than I want the conservative one we have right now."

According to Jesse Lava, co-founder of an online community of Christian Democrats called FaithfulDemocrats.com, the two groups can agree on "promoting the common good"--specifically, protecting the environment and reducing poverty--while having diverse views on some social issues.

"We are going to take things away from you on behalf of the common good." -- Hillary Clinton.

The thing of it is that we don’t have a similar effort as of yet, with so many potential Nominees, who is going to be able to start the outreach for 08 right now as the Dhimis are?

With Clitnon being the only “real” nominee, she can get things much more organized then we can at the moment.

I was discussing this with a fellow church-goer who happened to say in a conversation, “I don’t know how anyone can be a Christian and a Republican at the same time.”

Wow. Basically, she took selective passages from the Bible that she interpreted to fit her ideology. She said it was government’s role to care for the poor and the sick. Borders should be open to allow those in need to come and have a chance at a better life. The war on terror was unjust because we should just turn the other cheek. Global warming was caused by man, and it is a sin to spoil God’s creation in that way.

Re abortion, her view was that it was unBiblical to bring a child into a world where it would only know pain and suffering and exploitation. Better to put it into the hands of a loving God now.

It was all I could do to keep from throwing up...

They can’t co-exist; how can a Bible-Believing Christian vote for a Democrat that supports the removal of God from the public, radical sexual politics, as well as pro-staunchly-Abrotion?

They can’t, won’t be tricked just becuas the democrats try to “act Christian”..

Challenge the “religious left” on theological issues to defeat Them!

They never were. It has been the left who painted that picture in order to scare everyone about the evil Religious Right, Inc. The problem is that liberal religion is man-centered and phony. It is disbelief dressed up as belief. So it fits perfectly with the political liberals and it was dumb of the liberals to not recognize it earlier.
