The former head of the Michigan Federation of Young Republicans admitted today that he sexually abused a colleague during a national convention here last summer.

Michael Flory, a 32-year-old attorney from Jackson, Mich., pleaded guilty to sexual battery on the day he was to stand trial for rape.

The teary-eyed college student he overpowered in a downtown hotel room gasped and dabbed her eyes as Flory replied to Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Judge Peter Corrigan's question, "Are you indeed guilty?"

"Sure - yeah," Flory said.

Corrigan set sentencing for Sept. 13. Flory faces a sentence that ranges from probation to five years in prison and a $10,000 fine.

God be with and bless the victim and her family and the family of the man described. Sad day for all but just wait until how everyone (like in the link's comments) uses this case to lynch all Republicans.

This would earn him a promotion in the Democratic Party.

LOL True slimeball and I have to say he didn't act too much like a gentleman when entering his plea. However, the article could just read that way (too often articles such as this are tone deaf). But to stick it in the headline that he's a Young Republican leader? And not just that, but a former YR Leader? Sounds to me like it is a classic example of a brute taking advantage of an intoxicated female and acting like a thug. NOT some political broadbrush or example. Poor headline choice IMO.

She and some supporters lamented when the incident became public last winter that Flory and his followers within the Republican organization had been smearing her reputation in retaliation for accusing Flory of rape. Skutnik said she found that to be true.

Her are some more soon to be liberal demorats. I hope she starts naming names. Bunch of scum.

The bottom feeder admits that this is not the first time and/or the first women. The judge needs to throw the book at this clown, starting at about 40 years.

>>”Sure - yeah,” Flory said.<<

1. May God bless the victim and may she recover as fully as possible.

2. What the heck kind of way is that to address a court any way and take responsibility for his actions?

3. Its rare that I wish a civil suit on somebody but this is one of those times.

I agree. However, having said that why isn’t Clinton in jail for rape?

If this were the leader of a democratic college group, the title of the article would have read: "College Student Pleads Guilty In Sex Case"

Probably because the Independent council found the Broaddrick affidavit wasn’t credible. As far as I know that’s the only time law enforcement looked at it.

No, but then again, there’s no excuse for getting drunk enough to lose control of yourself. When a man and a woman have both voluntarily gotten very drunk, and then sober up to discover that things happened between them that they both wish hadn’t, I’m not sure the man should always be saddled with responsibility for the whole mess. And I’m a woman. It just strikes me as treating women as helpless children who can’t be expected to steer clear of trouble.

Of course, I don’t know the particulars of what happened in this case. But there are way too many women — especially young women — who go to parties where they know full well that there will be horny men getting very drunk and losing control, flirt up a storm with those men (often in hopes of some form of personal gain, in this case probably climbing the ladder of Republican politics), get rip roaring drunk themselves, and the next day are hollering “I was raped!” They’re all but begging to be raped. And in some cases the act was really consensual, and the young woman only reclassifies it as rape after she realizes other people have gotten wind of it, and she’s embarrassed because now her pals and would-be pals are calling her “trash”. She decides she’d rather be a “victim” than “trash”.

The tone of your post is most disturbing. Real men don't rape women whether they're horny, drunk or otherwise. Real men respect women and protect those weaker than them. Males, like this POS, who rape women are weak nancy boys who prey on those who are the most vulnerable because of their own inadequacy to deal with women as men.

I might go to a gang controlled part of town for the experience and I might get killed for doing it. That might make me stupid but it would not make the one who killed me any less of a murderer. Women do not "beg" to be raped and men do not "lose control". Rapists know exactly what they are doing.

This is especially troubling because Republicans, or a least conservatives, espouse respect for women. Many liberals respect nothing as demonstrated by Clinton. A young Republican leader being a rapist is like priests abusing children, it goes completely against what they profess and what we expect. Their is a special place reserved just for them.

Bears repeating. Again and again...along with the rest of your excellent post.

The victim became so intoxicated that she headed back to her hotel room. Flory escorted her.

The guy is apparently a cad. But what was the girl thinking? 1) Getting so drunk; and 2) having a man (instead of a girlfriend or girlfriends) escort her back to her room in that vulnerable state.

Social customs are there for a reason: to protect good women. Young women who ignore them (or don't know them) are part of the problem. We need to teach this stuff all over again, and enforce it. You can't protect someone who acts without common sense.
