Deborah Lefler had accused her husband of pointing his police service weapon at her head and chest and threatening to kill her during a dispute over money.
Substitute Judge Matthew Crawford of Lexington acquitted Lefler of the charges Thursday following a five-hour hearing in Alleghany County General District Court.
I believe he did it, but I cannot say that proof is there beyond a reasonable doubt, Crawford said.
Crawford said that he found evidence presented against Lefler during the hearing as most disturbing.
Several witnesses, including Clifton Forge police officers, said they had heard Lefler make statements about killing his wife and himself. There was also testimony that Lefler had mixed prescription painkillers and other medications with alcohol.
Now I guess the FOP will be trying to get the dirt bags job back.
Probably, but that doesn’t mean the city should do it.
The standard for holding/retaining a job as a police officer ought to be higher than that for conviction.
Read the entire article before you make a judgement.
Sounds like the wife is no angel either.
I read the entire article, and if this man has been working for the department for 17 years and has not been fired, then this relates to his marriage to this woman. I’d advise him to get out of there before his life is ruined completely. And by the way, someone tell him that killing someone never solved anything.
I married someone who quit work after marrying me, was a womanizer and a gambler. I didn’t threaten him; just handed him the divorce papers while he cried that he wanted a “second chance”. You get more satisfaction that way.
Good for you. That’s the way to handle that little matter.
I don’t know why guys thing they shouldn’t work after they marry.
