He fired the war hero, and the conservatives of that day wanted MacArthur to run for president in 1952. Cooler heads prevailed, and MacArthur faded away. Uhm... now I went to public schools growing up so I might be wrong on this, but wasn't a retired general elected President in 1952?

I guess I should state that I got that impression that his credentials might be lacking because of liberal military author Rick Atkinson's comment.
In the book In the Company of Soldiers where he said of the General in Iraq during the invasion, as I recall, something like: "Although most officers in the military are conservative, General Petraeus' opinions were nuanced"

Thats really a good idea!! Petreaus for Prez!!!!!!!!! Petraeus needs to win first. And then maybe be president of a major university or such for a while.
