Considering the source of this article, is any of this story to be believed?>

It's hard to know for sure. We do know that the Democrats and their media can not let the surge appear to be working. Instead of attacking "the troops" and Petraeus they have attacked the Iraqi Gov't. First we had to hear from Congress before they went on vacation how terrible it was for the Iraqi legislature to go on vacation. This morning NBC was humping another group that is boycotting the legislature claiming Maliki's Gov't is on the verge of collapse. Now this story which is more of the usual disconnect between local groups and a centralized and distant Gov't. The bottom line in all this I expect has more to do with our election than with anything to do with Iraqis.

Emphatically NO!!!

It's the Washintoon comPost. It is not to be believed. It may occasionally publish content which is at least partially true, but that can only be determined by corroboration by other, independant, reliable sources. WaPo content should be considered false, distorted, or incomplete unless proven otherwise.

If anything, I would use this to illustrate that pulling out of Iraq now would be disasterous.

“Considering the source of this article, is any of this story to be believed?”

- If there is any truth to this story at all, it is just a mini picture of what will happen on a national scale if the US disengages from Iraq. As I understand it, the residents of the Basra area are mostly all Shiite’s and so the infighting is not as vicious or as intense as it would be in those areas of the country where sectarian hatred can be added to the mix.
Finally, if the story is true, the reason for it can be traced back to the British governments policy of avoiding casualties at all costs by hunkering down in their military outposts and not venturing outside to keep the peace. Their military “presence” in Iraq has become a joke and recent statements by Prime Minister Brown seem to indicate that he is only to anxious to end the joke as soon as possible by appeasing his home grown Islamofascists by crawling out of that country with his tail between his legs. This move will be popular with the voters - until the next London bus bombings start.
