There was no entangled allaince when we went to Afghanistan or Iraq. Some of our allies followed our lead, but there was no alliance bound obligation to conquer these countries. So this is more along the lines of Jefferson going after the barbary pirates.
I think Paul voted for the Afghanistan venture, but not Iraq. He makes a distinction of some sort.
