It's not that I regularly eat at McDonalds or go to Starbucks, but if there were more of these types of franchises spread throughout the third world I would bet that there would be less starvation in these backwater countries.

Capitalism and free enterprise lifts all boats and only capitalism and free enterprise has the ability to feed the world.

How about the lefties looking inward for a change. Liberal lifestyles are more to blame than Capitalism. Osama always talks about our “satanic moral decay” and I would venture to say he means the lifestyle of the weirdo’s in Hollywood etc.

"The McMeal is…a parody of the Eucharist"

Kooks are entitled to kooky opinions. But NOBODY should pay this clown's salary.

Beside. I prefer the highly caloric Quarter Pounder with cheese.

These idiots have lost their freakin’ grip on reality. Maybe they should open the Bible occasionally and re-cage their brains.

-—”Our peculiar North America culture has…bequeathed a meal for the world’s consumption, a meal that gorges a larger number of bellies every day: the Big Mac, fries, and Coke. This meal also embodies distinct practices: of burgers packaged in individual containers that resist sharing, of a maddening rush to the counter, of empty calories rather than food that sustains, of convenience rather than hospitality, of intricate global supply chains ensuring that beef from Brazil arrives in Asia on time, of homogenous tastes rather than sharing that begets moderation.”-—

For some reason I feel an irresistible urge to beat the crap out of this bozo.

"Why do they hate us?"

They hate us because they hate themselves more and are envious of a prosperous country where religious persecution or oppression does not make all the rules.

How could a mind who conceives this kind of crap -- much less composes an essay on it -- possibly be equipped to teach anybody about anything?

David Hadley Jensen is so wrong on so many levels as to boggle the imagination.

Hmmmmmm...Jensen? I wonder if he is perhaps shares any genes with fellow moonbat, Robert Jensen, the "journalism professor" occupying the Ward Churchill Chair at UT-Austin.

So just supersize, then share away.

When he was in the White House, U.S. President William Jefferson “Bill” Clinton said that Big Macs were his favorite snack.[citation needed]

In India, where Hindu and Islamic Sharia dietary laws prohibit Hindus from eating beef and Muslims from eating pork, the Big Mac was renamed the Maharaja Mac and was originally made with lamb instead of beef; however, along with the company’s other meat items it is now made from chicken.[6] [7] In Saudi Arabia, the two meat patties are “100% grilled; inspected Halal; no additives, fillers, binders, preservatives, extenders, or flavor enhancers. Only pure forequarter and flank”.[8] There are also variations in other countries, especially to the condiments.

Such bull****. I have French relatives, and they love eating at “McDo”.

This McDonald’s complex exists only in the minds of the liberal elites. It’s their lack of moral values that’s more of a problem.

A couple years ago I asked some young people at Moscow McDonalds if they liked McDonalds. I didn’t get the normal yes or no I expected. Instead their eyes lit up and they gave an enthusiastic and passionate, even reverent, “Yes”.

Although I disagree with this moonbattery, McDonald’s food is generally garbage. One can get much better-tasting food with the same price with a little effort.

Many Americans asked a question after the 9/11 attacks: “Why do they hate us?” An answer is suggested in Jensen’s essay: It’s because America is imposing its culture on other nations. The Big Mac is a case in point.

Don't you just hate it how McDonald's sends out its thugs—well-armed and dress like Ronald McDonald—to force people to buy their food? How dare they impose their culture on others like that!

Nearby, there were several traditional Venezuelan restaurants and eateries. None of them ever had a fraction of the customers that McDonald’s did; and it was perhaps no coincidence that they were not as well-run, clean and friendly as McDonald’s.

Oh, the humanity! McDonald's is threatening to put the indigenous restaurants out of business. Those poor, benighted Third World victims just don't know what is good for them. Besides, efficiency, cleanliness, and friendliness are so overrated.
