Chill out, Bub. In my view, a country that criminalizes the right to self defense is a lost cause. It is a crime in England to protect oneself from assault. It is illegal for an old lady to use a hat pin to fight off an attacker. It is illegal for a pensioner to hit an attacker with a shoe. That’s YOUR country’s law, mate. Sounds like R.I.P. is in order, I’d say. Oh, by the way: My Mother is from England, so 50% of the blood in my veins is English. But, like America’s founders, who were English before they tossed off Britain’s yoke, I am 100% American. Your nation is a poor shadow of its once-great self. Winston Churchill would get the fantods if he saw what has become of England. The label “Londonistan” is no idle application.

Self defence is NOT a crime here.

The problem came in the last 20 yrs where idiotic police forces and judges, to clamp down on any violence, started investigating the victims for the slightest over-use of violence during self defence.

It caused such a storm here that over the last few years, both a clearer definition of what is legitimate defence and GREATER leeway to the British public under the rules of self defence has come about.

But self defence was never made ‘illegal’, as many Americans seem to think.

“It is a crime in England to protect oneself from assault.”

Having done a little law, I can say otherwise. If you are able, you are allowed to strike an attacker with ‘reasonbable’ force if you and they are unarmed. If they are armed, you are permitted to defend yourself with a defensive object of similar size, wieght etc. Say if you were at knifepoint, it would be perfectly within your rights to defend yourself with a stick or pole, or baseball bat.
The problem comes about that when the attacker is disarmed, and poses no obvious danger, the of course, if you strike them then you are probably guilty of assault.
Its complex, but requires all law-abiding people to exercise restraint and awareness when dealing with an potential attacker. Having been in a number of ‘scuffles’ for one thing or another, if this were a gun-weilding country I can say for certain that things would have been more bloody if a 9mm was involved.

“I am 100% American. Your nation is a poor shadow of its once-great self.”

You should be proud of your country man, its done wonders in very little time. The nation you talk of as a ‘shadow of its once-great self’ is the same nation that at its apogee (its great self) controlled up to a quarter of the worlds population, including, your nation. Why would you want to throw of its ‘great imperial yoke’???

I hope I have clarified the point of the legality of self-defence in the UK that you attested you. No doubt some of the blurb you count as fact and knowledge comes from too much crap news on Fox, CBS, CNN and all the other balls. Its fair enough, but now you know otherwise.
