“The Panderer”
(Apologies to Ernie Maresca)
Well I’m the type of pol who will never settle down
Where pretty voters are, well you know that I’m around
I kiss’em and I love’em ‘cause to me they’re all the same
I hug’em and I squeeze’em they don’t even know my name
They call me the panderer - yeah -the panderer
I roam around around around around

Thanks, EEE. I think the real hat-tip goes to the Romney campaign for digging up the details on Rudy's involvement in the original Reagan amnesty. I had discovered it back in April, but couldn't find much more info.

The card would be required for any non-citizen in this country to work, go to school or visit, he said. Those without a card would be deported. But he did not explain how he would identify illegal immigrants already here in this country, or what he would do with them once he found them.

Well, that's when Plan B kicks in - the one he's not talking about - require EVERYONE to have such a card.

I don't think Giuliani wants those ID cards only for immigrants:
On balancing the need for increased national security versus a free society, Giuliani said American inventiveness would prevail. "You can't lock everybody down and create curfews and make people wait three hours every time they travel," Giuliani said. But Giuliani said it may be time for a national identification system. "We are going to have to give up a little more of our privacy than we're used to," said Giuliani, who was term-limited last fall.

While Giuliani shrugged off speculation that he may head the new Cabinet-level Department of Homeland Security, proposed earlier this month by President Bush, he said he supports security measures such as issuing national identification cards. "There's a trade-off that we have to make about what we perceive of as our privacy and protection of everyone else in society," he said. "That is not in any way an erosion of any kind of fundamental freedoms."

Yep- Rudy will end illegal immigration. He will just completely open the borders and tell everyone who wants to be here to come on. No penalties, no worries. If it isn’t illegal to come here...then there will be no more illegal immigration...

This is a campaign promise I would expect he will keep.

Apparently so, they keep posting his propaganda.

Rudy wants to get the camel's nose in the tent by pushing these for illegals initially. But your posts show what he really wants in the long run.

What an absolute authoritarian control freak. If it comes down to Rudy versus Hillary, we've lost either way.

Yes, I am. I liked the long article on dealing with Islam he just wrote (or ghost wrote) in Foreign Policy. And last I checked he was ahead in the polls. So quite a few people seem to be taking him seriously. More than are taking Ron Paul, Duncan Hunter, Tom Tancredo and other well intentioned by hopeless backmarkers seriously. And more than are taking Mitt and McCain, but a decent margin. In fact only Fred Thompson is in his league, but he’s still not officially in. Who knows what he’ll eventually decide? By then Rudy may have it locked up.

Rudy’s RX: We’ll end illegal immigration by declaring them legal. See, that’s what people misunderstood when I was running for President.

We have to be pragmatic and I’m keeping my promise.

I like Rudy in some respects, but I think he’s not real on this. I smell a reversal if he got to the Oval Office.

NO NATIONAL I.D. CARDS!

The new passports or bad enough! I just came back from international travel a week ago and was grilled by the customs agent in Los Angeles. Every little tidbit of info I gave him he typed into the electronic file, all recorded in my passport (but which I can’t read). He went so far as to document what I purchased, where I stayed, and which family member’s wedding I attended! He typed more but that was all I could see before he noticed me reading his computer screen.

I don’t know that this is a full barf. Maybe a modified barf.

I agree. It's more like a "Dry Heaves Alert".

...high-tech sensors and a mandatory tamper-proof card for all non-citizens in the United States.

What types of sensors? Is he going to stop the people crossing illegally and give them cards? What is the point of this card? Are the cards required for employment or education? Why should I believe they'll bother finding people without the card when they don't bother finding the people who are already here and dont' belong here? All he has is fancy words to make people think he's got something good.

If you want to fix immigration, end the welfare state. Put the lazy to work. Stop pandering to other languages. Emphasize assimilation. Put limits on what types of people and origins of people you want to immigrate. It is not a human right to live in the USA.
