Need help with a song (vanity)

I need help naming a song by Deep Purple. I think the song changes after 6:13 minutes in. I don't know the name of it for the life of me, and searching lyric databases and search engines proved fruitless.

It's Pictures of Home followed by something else.

TOPICS: Miscellaneous
KEYWORDS: deeppurple
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Just thinking of some of their older, longer songs.....

"Lazy"?

"Highway Star"?

Check to see if it's one of the tunes on Machine Head (their best record, imo).

Hey Mojo, you got the licks to Lazy? I’ve been trying to get the opening riffs down for a long time.

You mean the opening organ licks? (I play guitar, and probably haven't played the riffs since the 70s). This might help, though.

Hey, we’re still waiting for you to get back to that other thread where you asked for references on the evils of homosexuality in the Bible, ok?

You got a bunch of ‘em, were you looking to endorse them, or oppose them? ;)

Here's a Power Tab version of Lazy

Yeah, I like the Power Tab stuff. I think most of the transcriptions are pretty good. I know its better to learn by ear, but frankly I don't have the patience (or aptitude). And ASCII tab is only so-so.

I've never used any of the popular, sophisticated software, but Power Tab is actually a pretty powerful tool, and even the simple stuff is nice: You can slow down the tempo. You can change the tuning/key. You can build your own tab. Etc.

I’ve played by ear since I first began in 1972. I can usually just listen to a song a few times and jam along...

The most important thing I ever learned was all the scales—especially the pentatonic. I had a teacher who insisted on my learning the entire fretboard—and in several different modes. I had to learn groupings all the way to the 14th position. Used to practice 5 hours a day when I was a young punk just out of high school.

When I first picked up the instrument in junior high, my first teacher would insist on learning to “read” music—I despised the stuff, since I could play by ear. What the heck did I need to read music for? It only slowed me down and discouraged my interest. Worse, the guy had us learning stupid crap like Mary had a little lamb. Sheesh... what a pain in the butt. I doubt Ronie Van Zant or Alex Lifson started that way!

Now I do not play as often... my left hand and forearm get serious cramps since I’ve gotten older. And there is not much R&B going on in southwest Nebraska!

Hey, we could have a Free Republic Jambfest! What do you think? Call it FreeperRock! Kind of catchy.
