He is cynical as hell, but a good investigative political journalist needs to be, yet he is a friendly curmudgeon. For a democrat, he is very conservative, which is why the nutroots hates his guts. He is an “old school” democrat like Truman, LBJ, Hubert Humphrey or Sam Nunn.
