A C-130 aircraft carrying an Alabama senator and congressman was fired on this evening as it was flying from Baghdad to Amman, Jordan.
The airplane was carrying Sen. Richard Shelby, R-Ala., and Rep. Bud Cramer, D-Huntsville, and two other senators.
Three rockets were shot at the plane and were "near misses," Shelby said in a telephone interview. He said the pilot took evasive maneuvers to avoid the rockets. The plane landed safely in Amman at about 4 p.m. central.

Near misses. Does that mean they were slightly hit?
Or did they mean near hits?

A miss is a miss but a near miss gives you a tight sphincter for a few seconds.
If you hear the wooosh or the crack its too late to duck.

This was always a dilemma and a problem for the Air Force. The CODELS (Congressional Delegations) flood the AOR like water. Every Congressman (or woman) wants to be able to tell their constituents they "have been to Iraq." But, it is a nightmare watching out for DVs in a war zone.
Moreover, some members of Congress fly through parts of the AOR in business jets. The Air Force had to ban those from certain parts and only allow them to fly on aircraft that have defensive systems.

I wonder if Angelina Jolie, the
Peace Ambassador of the United States of America, may be having second thoughts on her flight back?
Perhaps we should just give her a cheap plane, some flying lessons, and turn her loose.
Personally, I don't want to hear about any good military people getting shot down while carting some idiot hollywood skank around on a "peace mission".

I hate the term “near miss.” If it nearly missed it, then that means it hit it. If it barely missed it, it would be a “near hit.”

I think the insanity is elevating ... Katie Couric et al ... they want to be shot down ... their lives suck, they've drank the kool aid, bought into the martyr syndrome ... and are willing to take one for the team.
Pray they all survive.
