Money has brought both trappings and trouble for Norman Hsu. Major contributions to the campaigns of Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton and other candidates have made the apparel executive an insider in elite political circles. He shows up in cozy pictures with politicians, at lavish fundraising events, and on the boards of prestigious organizations.
But Hsu's history includes more unsavory episodes and associations. In 1990, he allegedly was kidnapped by Chinese gang members in San Francisco as part of an apparent effort to collect a debt. A year and a half later, he pleaded no contest to a charge of fleecing investors in what authorities called a Ponzi scheme of fraud. Along the way, he left a bankruptcy filing and bitter investors who accused him of making off with their savings.

But he has powerful defenders. Former Sen. Bob Kerrey (D-Neb.) said in an interview that Hsu was being pilloried unfairly.
"This isn't Osama bin Laden or some drug kingpin," Kerrey said. "What he's done is he's volunteered to help people raise money for their campaigns. That doesn't make him either unique or bad."
Kerrey said he recruited Hsu to serve on a board of directors at New York City's New School university, of which Kerrey is president. Kerrey said Hsu had called him earlier this week to warn him about coming media coverage. Kerrey added that Hsu had been "a terrific member" of the New School board and had not been asked to step down.

Hsu's Washington-based attorney, E. Lawrence Barcella Jr., said Hsu was in Hong Kong from 1992 to 1996. Barcella said Hsu did not remember pleading to a criminal charge that included jail time and thought he had agreed to a settlement with creditors.

It really amazes me to see how orchestrated Hillary's protection is. We can't allow this political beast to ascend to the White house.
Two words:
Foreign Money.
Once again, some big-money people representing non-US interests are trying to buy a little influence in how the Oval Office is occupied, and how that occupant may be manipulated.
It worked to their advantage once before, and since nothing succeeds like success, the chances look good again.
But why did Herself, the Cold and Joyless, have to bring them in so EARLY?
Or were these “interests” just detected sooner this time?
Barcella was also the attorney for Ernest Green, one of the guys convicted in the 1996 fundraising scandals with China. Green helped get a visa for Chinese arms merchant Wang Jun, the guy that was caught attending a coffee fundraiser with Bill Clinton in the White House residence quarters in February 1996 with Chinese spy Charlie Trie.
Old News
Well, then by all means, keep discussing the old guy winking and tapping his toes in the toilet.
That’s what it’s all about. A diversion.

I'm shocked to hear that gambling is going on.
“Kerrey said he never inquired about the source of Hsu’s wealth. “My presumption is that he’s rich,” he said.”
In reading all this, why am I reminded of a character out of a John Le Carre novel? Large amounts of unexplained wealth, ready access to the rich and powerful, a mysterious background that no one questions, the ability to appear and disappear at will. And underneath it all, something sinister, wafting hints of deception and betrayal...
I think that's how these people get away with everything. The stories are so grandiose, so bizarre, and so unbelievable, most people can't or won't take the time to grasp, understand, and believe them. It's much easier to gossip about toilet pervs and cigar sex with interns.
We're up against a criminal, treasonous enterprise and the masses are busying themselves reading the National Enquirer. The outlook for this country is very grim.
I think I need to get away from politics for a while...
Too late...
“This isn’t Osama bin Laden or some drug kingpin,” Kerrey said. “What he’s done is he’s volunteered to help people raise money for their campaigns. That doesn’t make him either unique or bad.”
Yeah, just like Jack Abramoff.
lol. OK, that was funny.
So Hsu gets into money and skips out on jail/court dates. he goes to Hong Kong for a bit (according to his lawyer) reloads on money and then surfaces thowing money at RAT politicans. and what part of this being a Chinese Army Political Bribery operation doestn’t the NYTimes get?
I guess New College is supported by new money (Chi Com).
Fugitive fellons on the board-yeah that’s is way to run a colleg-Kerry. Personnaly I think U.S. Marshalls should raid a University board meeting to pick HSU up.
The rats seem perfectly willing to ignore the existence of a feloneous criminal sentence in California.
I’ve turned off the TV... I can’t take any more of it.
Most interesting development. Pinging for later reading..
Am I missing an invisible sarcasm tag?If not, know that the last way to characterize complaining that something is not new would be "conservative."
