Tolls aren't a big deal to the affluent. But for a working stiff, it's just another bite out of the paycheck.
Very good point. This is really setting up a class system w.r.t. highway access.
I am tempted to agree that it’s not that big a deal for some, but you know what, it’s time to suff the tax and spend Genie back in the bottle. We need to draw a line in the sand and tell these idiots that it’s over.
Bush gives $45 billion to Africa and we have to pay toll road fees. It’s more the principle of the thing, than anything else, but I have to admit I just don’t like the idea of interstate or local checkpoints.
The next thing you know it’s, “Show me your papers...”
I agree and look at toll roads the same as I look at any other infrastructure, i.e., the bridge in Minnesota. The feds put up the money to build it—the least the States could do is keep it up with the revenue sharing money they receive. How do the people feel about the new FCC wanting the satellite traffic control for airports? I forget the Billions of $$ they want to build it. Are airports privately owned or are they federally owned? I guess I thought deregulating them was suppose to make all this go away. I really don’t understand. There are certain things I do believe the government should control and infrastructure is one of them. But they have to be responsible and accountable.
While I agree that the average working stiff can’t afford to go to the games, most stadia (stadiums) are funded by increases in car rental, hotel/motel and restaurant taxes.
That said, I agree with posters that we have already paid for the roads and we own them as a group. Our tax dollars (gas, vehicle etc.) are supposed to pay for maintenance. However, if you look at the federal budget for roads and infrastructure, you will see that a large percentage goes to other things like parks, bike trails and other non-qualifying (IMHO) projects. And states are just as bad, if not worse, as the Congress.
