CRAWFORD, Texas (CNN) A powerhouse Republican lobbying firm with close ties to the White House has begun a public campaign to undermine the government of Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki, CNN has confirmed.

A senior Bush administration official told CNN the White House is aware of the lobbying campaign by Barbour Griffith & Rogers because the firm is "blasting e-mails all over town" criticizing al-Maliki and promoting the firm's client, former interim Iraqi Prime Minister Ayad Allawi, as an alternative to the current Iraqi leader.

Well, that proves it!
Time to buy more gold.
More unbiased “truth reporting” from the CNN. When Hillary, Reid and Levin critize Maliki it’s statemanship and totally legtitimate. But those evil backhanded Republicans! How dare they undermine an democratically elected leader!/s
I imagine they are doing this because they are being paid for it, presumably friends of Ayad Allawi.
The press does it, less honestly, simply to undermine the war effort.
Am I the only person who is disturbed by the fact we have firms employing folks such as Executive Director of the 9/11 Commission that happily act as agents of a foreign power for the right price?
White House deniability.
I can’t weigh in too seriously about this because I don’t really know whether Maliki or Allawi would be better from our point of view. From what little I know, it seems to be a question of which is the lesser of two evils.
Revolving doors from government to lobbying and back again are an unfortunate part of our system, all too common. About all I can say is that this seems a bit smelly, but not as smelly as a lot of other instances.
