This is how Hugh comes across:

"DID YOU KNOW THAT FRED THOMPSON HAD CANCER? YES, LIFE-THREATENING CANCER! CANCER, I SAY!"

I stole that line from a blog, but I agree that Hugh seems to be going overboard here, probably since he's got so much love for Romney.

I also worry about his cancer, about how a grueling presidential campaign might affect his health, and what the Clintons will do with ‘the cancer thing’ once Hillary and Fred are both nominees.

I also wish his pretty, youngish wife had a more grown-up, serious style.

Thompson's NHL is a legitimate concern. His lymphoma is correctly described by Thompson's physicians as indolent, however remission is described as likely. His form of lymphoma is called nodal marginal zone lymphoma .

The prognosis of nodal marginal zone lymphoma is discussed in a recent review article . 5-year survival is estimated at 50-70%.

We’ll all die of something. My medical opinion is that Fred has a 5% risk of recurrence in his first term. Let him choose a good running mate. Wouldn’t we all take a 5% chance—or even 50%—of Thompson being treated for cancer in his first term than a Hillary/Obama nightmare?

So Fred has a cancer which is in remission. So do McCain and Giuliani. They only have to last four more years after being elected.

I know people with lymphoma who have survived for 15 years and are still going strong.

HH you moron.

For a stalwart GOP party guy you sure are setting up the primary Democratic talking points nicely - I'm sure they appreciate it.

Have you given any thought to the possibility Thompson might win the nomination? Sheesh.

I saw Hewitt on Cspan a couple of months ago talking about his Romney book. They asked if he was endorsing Romney. He said no, that he favored both Giuliani and Romney.

Hewitt and many of the staff at NRO are in the tank for Romney.

Hannity and many of those at FOX are in it for either Rudy or Hillary. Hannity’s not pulling for Rudy...but some of his bosses are.

I just ignore these types. I don’t ignore critics, just ignore gushing fanatics beyond all reason as Hewitt is here.

Thompson is only going to win if those in the base rally around him like they did Bush. Up to this point everyone and their mother has tried to make the base rally around the three RINO’s. It hasn’t worked. I suspect attempts to discourage or encourage choosing Thompson will be unsuccessful as well. in the end regardless of pressure conservatives are either going to agree on someone, or sit this race out. And our “Leaders” on blogs, radio, cable and D.C. aren’t going to affect that outcome.

If someone supports Thompson, and I’ve decided to, the best strategy is simply to make sure he is heard by as many as possible without filters. Conservatives will respond or they won’t to the message. Hewitt’s pearls will hardly affect any change.
