Mexican Rebels Claim Pipeline Attacks
Associated Press via Breitbart ^ | Sep 10, 2007 | MIGUEL HERNANDEZ

VERACRUZ, Mexico (AP) - A shadowy leftist guerrilla group took credit for a string of explosions that ripped apart at least six Mexican oil and gas pipelines Monday, rattling financial markets and causing hundreds of millions of dollars in lost production. The six explosions could be seen miles away, and set off fires that sent flames and black smoke shooting high above the Gulf coast state of Veracruz.

At least a dozen pipelines, most carrying natural gas, were affected, said Jesus Reyes Heroles, the head of Mexico's oil monopoly Petroleos Mexicanos, without providing specifics.

He said there would be hundreds of millions of dollars in lost production and about nine states and the capital, Mexico City, would be affected.

"It is a big blow," he said. "You can't store natural gas or transport it by truck."

The blasts caused brief jitters in international markets, with natural gas futures up as much as 20.2 cents on news of the explosions, although prices dropped in later trading. One oil pipeline was hit in Monday's attack but Pemex said the damage wouldn't affect crude exports.

Some local factories were forced to shut after natural gas supplies were cut. Residential supplies were not expected to be affected.

There were no immediate reports of injuries directly caused by the explosions and fires, although Fernando Leon Yepez, a civil defense official in Omealca, reported that two elderly women died of heart attacks shortly after the explosions.

It was the second time in three months that the so-called People's Revolutionary Army claimed responsibility for a pipeline attack as part of what it has labeled its "prolonged people's war" against "the anti-people government."

Commie terrorists. They’re here, and they’ll be acting up soon.

Well, at least this group is doing it to their own rotten country, instead of ours. It’s usually the USA that leftist Mexican groups target for hate and violence.

I agree - Chavez is no doubt encouraging it. This is exactly the technique used by FARC in Colombia, and everybody knows that Chavez has been very helpful to them and given them safe haven across the border.

By the way, Mexico has been under heavy attack by its own and the foreign left for some time now. Chavez tried to influence the elections last year and there was a diplomatic incident over it where VZ’s diplomats were expelled. Supposedly, VZ military also turned up in Southern Mexico at one point, although I can’t confirm that. In any case, one of the biggest problems Mexico has is its violent left, which tries to undermine any reform or progress made in the country. Now it looks as if they’re moving beyond undermining and getting into sabotaging. (Of course, this would also benefit Chavez and other leftists who control supplies of natural gas, such as Morales.)

One can hope that some of the citizens there are acting against those truly responsible for their misery. We need most of that fence up as soon as possible. The Administration has been foot-dragging on it long enough and I still wonder why they awarded most of that to a company that builds jetliners.

Even stranger - I just heard from Lou Dobbs’ show that there’s ten reinforced footbridges - barely monitored - across the Rio Grande in non-urban Texas areas. A local sheriff said there’s no official justification for them yet there they are.

We can hope.

I saw a program some time back, CBS or CNN. On the Rio Grande, shallow place, they showed a metal fence with a big metal gate, really tall. The gate was always open. It was a thoroughfare.

Also, what’s the name of that guy who lost the election...Obrador?

He vowed he and his followers would take down the Calderon administration.

Though we have five states assaulted by the invasion I perceive Texas the most receptive to corruptive influence. So much for the Alamo. Before you TX Freepers jump my butt I say clean your house.

I was born in Texas. My Daddy used to say 'In the shadow of the Alamo'. And you're right, Texas needs a giant enema.

You will not often find OPEC projects under attack; typically it is non-OPEC pipelines and oil production that attract the interest of “enviro” groups and their lawyers, indigenous groups (with their euro advisors), and as it gets nastier, shadowy guerrilla groups.

Mexico is a non-Opec producer and the recent elections defeated a Chavez proxy. I would be surprised if Chavez and Company didn’t attempt to foment some kind of rebellion. The Chavez model has been partially successful in Ecuador, more successful in Bolivia, he has fomented a couple of failed rebellions in Peru, he has a new ally in Nicaragua, and he came within a Gorean vote recount of winning in Mexico. Its only a matter of time before his proxies and allies in Mexico kick things up to the next level.

To imagine the size of that enema! LOL!

Seriously, it hasn't been right since the Johnson era. Texas has more readily available military presence than any other state in the union yet the illegals are still running through it with relative impunity - often through the bases themselves! What's right with that picture?
