Not 3 hours ago I went through the entire scenario of that morning with our 9 year old because the dress of the day tomorrow in school is Red White and Blue.
She was 3 at the time and attended a homeschool based preschool 2 days a week, Tuesdays being one of them. That morning my husband took her because he didn’t have a service call scheduled. I was on my first cup of coffee when a friend called practically screaming about the first plane and telling me to turn on the TV. I turned it on and was watching, and listening to my friend on the phone when the 2nd plane hit. At first I honestly thought it was a replay until he screamed at me that it was a 2nd plane into the 2nd tower.
We lived in Dover, DE at the time, about a mile from the end of the runway of DAFB. The silence of no C-5s was deafening. The first airtraffic sounds I heard were the helicopters. Those choppers were bringing the remains from the Pentagon.
Tomorrow our daughter is wearing a T-shirt that was given to me by a friend who was still NYPD at the time. I come from 3 generations of NYPD. The lettering on the front of the shirt reads “The new twin towers of New York” and underneath is a pen and ink drawing of the skyline of lower Manhattan with a cop and a firefighter standing standing in the smoke of where those towers once stood. The back has an American flag and the shields of both NYPD and FDNY with the words “United We Stand”
Wow!
Just advised my 11 year old what colors she should wear tomorrow.
I was skimming posts and happened to read your post. I just realized that neither of my kids schools are remembering this day in any way. No red/white/blue, nothing. The two youngest wear uniforms and this would usually be a “special no uniform day” - I’ll be making a call tomorrow to that Principal. The other two are in public high school so I’ll just tell them to wear their American Flag T-shirts.
