I was at home, homeschooling my son (13 yrs. old) and my mom called to say that they were watching tv and a small plane had flown into the WTC tower. We turned on the tv and were watching in time to see the second plane come into view behind the building and slam into the other tower. At that point I realized it was terrorism.

I was on the computer (not FR evidently). My daughter called and told me about the first plane. As we talked, and I turned on the tv, we watched the second plane hit. At first, the view I had made me think it was debris falling from above. I was concerned about others I had worked with for several years. I was afraid one of our consultants was on one of the planes.

We had just started our first year of homeschooling. Our daughter and son were in the 8th and 6th grades respectively. They were working in the den with me, when my Parish Prayer partner called and we went over the requests we'd received from Parishoners that week in order to put them in the bulletin that weekend. She also said we needed to pray for the people on the plane that hit the World Trade Center. I commented that the pilot must have been blind to have hit it, it was so big!

When we rung off, I went downstairs to be basement to watch the TV. When I saw the news, I called the kids down to watch with me. We were watching as the second plane flew into the 2nd building. We were just so shocked, we couldn't stop watching. Needless to say, we were horrified when the first tower fell, then the second tower, then the plane hit the Pentagon. I was beginning to worry, because I have a nephew who was working in the US Capitol at the time, and I knew that there had to be a plane heading there, as well. It it a BIG target and easily identified from the air.

It was a horrifying current events lesson for the kids, but they will remember it always. My sister still prays for the folks on Flight 93, because she believes their actions saved her son's life that day.
