ACLU Lawyer Convicted of Child Porn Possession

Sentenced to 7 years in prison

By Hilary White

ALEXANDRIA, Virginia, September 11, 2007 (LifeSiteNews.com) - Charles Rust-Tierney, an attorney who served as the president of the Virginia chapter of the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) from 1993 to 2005, was arrested February 23, 2007 and charged with possession of child pornography. He pleaded guilty to one count of receipt of child pornography, was convicted and on September 8, was sentenced to seven years in prison.

Tierney had downloaded and paid for what the judge called "abhorrent" child pornography including torture and sexual assaults on children as young as 6. Police found 850 still images and 36 videos on his computer. The sentence is a year less than the minimum recommended by federal sentencing guidelines.

Rust-Tierney expressed regret, saying, "I know what I have done is wrong, morally and legally. My conduct in paying the producers of this material is reprehensible. I am filled with contrition, remorse and shame."

Social and political conservatives in the US have long objected that the ACLU is the political lobby of the extreme left, and has made the suppression of public expressions of religion, particularly conservative Christianity, the main focus of its work. It lists among its goals the defence of "reproductive rights," including contraception and abortion; full recognition of homosexual partnerings as equal to natural marriage.

Will his own organization come to his rescue and appeal based on “free speech” grounds???

Personally, I hope he spends time in jail with someone who has an appreciation for child porno-fiends....

I hope he burns in hell, but that’s just me. Until then, I hope cell mate makes him his personal puppet.

“The sentence is a year less than the minimum recommended by federal sentencing guidelines.”

That figures.

Why would it surprise anyone that a lawyer who protects child molesters is himself a child molester? Any cop with half a brain would have all aclu lawyers at the top of his list of suspects for crimes they so vigorously defend.

Mark my words. You’ll never see/hear this story anywhere but FR, unless someone on talk radio runs with it. But you’ll never see it in print anywhere else.

The ACLU and the creeps that are within or support this organization are not worried about rights or people, unless you’re a gay illegal alien Muslim with an Indian sir name.

No the ACLU is the Commandos unit of the far left. They make strategic strikes against the core of American culture.

I wonder if BOR will talk about it?

I usually can’t stand him but he is good when it comes to going after child predators.

It is my contention that all liberals believe they have the right to do what they want, lying, cheating, sex in any form, etc. They hate conservatives or anyone with decent values. Liberals want NO laws to infringe on their ‘individual’ proclivities. That is why they are liberals. Doesn’t the ACLU defend NAMBLA?

God help us....

This creep lives in my area and was some kind of coach to the little ones. Dig deeper and clearly identify where this reprobate lives and works. Why isn’t he identified as a predator??

Hmmmm....forgot about him-possibility there. But he’d have to hammer it every night for months before anyone in the MSM picked it up.

Which is what I would do, BTW. I’d just hammer it every night and chide the media right on my show, and tell them they had no guts and were biased for not reporting the story. Sooner or later, someone would crack.

Why isn’t he identified as a predator??

He has not been accused much less convicted of any overt sex crime.

While I will agree that he has demonstrated the potential to perpetrate sex crimes against children I as a lover of freedom am not prepared to imprison people for what they might do.

He was sentenced to seven years in prison. I will hope that he subdues the demons that drives him to this perversion.

This was I am sure a high profile case in your area. We can hope that no one there will forget what he has done and that he will never again be trusted with children.

Sadly vigilance of parents is the only thing that will keep parents safe. My experience has shown me that designating offenders as sexual predators has not kept children safe from those so designated. The sexual predators fail to register and even if they do they still re-offend.

The only solution that has any hope of success is that convicted child sexual predators be imprisoned for life with out chance of parole. That solution may take a Constitutional Amendment.

It doesn't. But this is a problem that spans all aspects of society. From big wig corporate types, to street dwellers. It knows no bounds and has infected many areas and people who it would be a surprise to learn they are into this.

That this guy is an ACLU attorney just puts the sprinkles on the cupcake.

No surprise, does anyone beyond liberal lightweights believe the ACLU defending NAMBLA in Boston was done on a ‘lark’?

Hardly.
