It doesn’t take long for the race card to be played, even in cases of illegal campaign contributions.

I am shocked, shocked that there is gambling right here in Casablanca.

And you are right, just for frosting on the cake, they played the race card. An old and reliable card.

Chinese here fear that Hsu is going to cast a shadow over every yellow face who donates

When was the last time any Asian was referred to as “yellow”?

Good point. I haven’t heard that epithet in at least four decades.

"make small donations of $10, $15 . . . "

Undoubtedly, Hsu’s case will affect the reputation of the Chinese community, said Johnson Lee, chief consultant of the Chinese American Voters Association. "And I won't be surprised if Chinese donors are watched more closely than other people. If that happens, it could hurt the feelings of our donors and some of them may stop donating"

That thought never occurred to me. My thinking was along the old fashion, established Clinton shenanigans of contributions from the Red China Communist Party and armed forces (PLA).

If the Chinese community is going to start screaming "racism!" "Asian bashing!" then the screamers can go to hell. Most likely they'll be Hillary's shills and toadies anyway.

Did Wen Ho Lee ever live up to his agreement with the US DOJ? (Yes, I know Lee did not involve contributions but he did have an agreement to assist authorities find those tapes he admitted he had. Talk about screaming "racism!" "Asian bashing!" you can still hear echoes of the coast-to-coast screaming from the Lee case.)

How insensitive of you. They are undocumented campaign contributions just trying to do the job American dollars don't want to do.

And another talking point among reporters is the source of Hsu’s money and whether he’s backed up by the governments of any Asian countries.

"Talking point among reporters"? Gimme a break. The MSM reporters wanted to "move on" as soon as they realized this story might hurt their beloved dems...

Still somewhat new to the American political game and trying to figure out how to participate in the democratic process,

Oh come on. The PLA has been buying American Politicians for well over a decade.

"Still somewhat new to the American political game and trying to figure out how to participate in the democratic process, Chinese here fear that Hsu is going to cast a shadow over every yellow face who donates to political parties and candidates, opening them up to unprecedented scrutiny."

New? The Chinese have been here for centuries. Why would "yellow faces" be concerned about donating their own money to campaigns? If you're a "yellow faced" crook, then yeah maybe some concern.

This is the only piece of new information from the article:

>>He was born in Hong Kong, but his last name is spelled in typical Taiwanese style.

The rest is whining. But it’s instructive in its clear effort to paint this as unfair targeting of Asians....who, by the way, only started donating in number in 1992, the author notes, apparently clueless as to the import of that factoid.

I wouldn't be surprised. The presence and involvement of ICE in his capture in Colorado certainly suggests as much.

From the Sept. 7 San Jose Mercury News: The FBI said it got help in the high-profile bust from Grand Junction police, the Mesa County Sheriff's Office, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, and the U.S. State Department Diplomatic Security Service.

The State Dept. Diplomatic Security Service is equally intriguing. These guys didn't just happen to be between assignments in Grand Junction Colorado and offer to lend a hand.

From the State Department’s Diplomatic Security website:

“The DS Criminal Investigative Division conducts criminal investigations into violations of passport and visa fraud. These federal felonies are often committed in connection with more serious crimes, such as international terrorism, narcotics trafficking, organized crime, alien smuggling, money laundering, pedophilia, and murder. These investigations are critical to the President’s efforts to secure American borders and protect the national security of the United States...”
