Student Tasered at John Kerry forum

The University of Florida said today it has asked state law enforcement officials to investigate an incident in which campus police Tasered a student as he tried to question Sen. John Kerry during a forum.

Andrew Meyer, 21, was arrested after being zapped with a stun gun last night. He was released this morning on his own recognizance.

Video of the incident, posted on several Web sites, shows campus police officers pulling Meyer away from a microphone after the student loudly asks Kerry about impeaching President Bush and whether he and Bush both belonged to the secret society Skull and Bones when they were students at Yale University.

Meyer can be seen refusing to leave and becoming upset when officials cut the microphone off.

"That's all right, let me answer his question," Kerry (D-Mass.) says as two officers take Meyer by the arms.

Meyer is shown struggling as four officers try to remvoe him. The student screams for help and tries to break, then officers force him to the ground and order him to stop resisiting.

Meyer cries out for the officers to let him go, then says, "Don't Tase me, bro," just before he is shcoked by the Taser. The officers then lead him from the room as he screams, "What did I do?"

A university spokesman said campus police cut the microphone and removed Meyer because he had overstayed his allotted time to question the senator. Kerry, the 2004 Democratic presidential nominee, can be heard telling the audience that he would answer Meyer's "very important question."

Meyer was arrested for resisting an officer and disturbing the peace, but the State Attorney's Office has notsaid whether he will be formally charged.

University President J. Bernard Machen said today he had asked the Florida Department of Law Enforcement to investigate the arrest and determine whether campus police used excessive force.

Two officers involved were placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the probe, said Machen, who called the incident "regretful."

"We're absolutely committed to having a safe environment for our faculty and our students so that a free exchange of ideas can occur," Machen said.

Kerry said today he was sorry the discussion had been interrupted and he hoped no one was injured.

I just saw the video of this on Fox News Channel. It is unbelievable. University apologizing, some security laid off, Kerry saying he never saw anything like it.

He should be grateful he was at a Kerry speech, and not a Hillary speech. His family would be making funeral arrangements by now.

Kerry stood there and rambeled on in his monotone voice.

If this was a Bush event the left, the media, etc. would be going nuts.

Anyone remember the UCLA event?

Here’s this moron’s website. He prides himself on being a practical joker.

He was looking for a confrontation.

Oh come on.

Yes he was a bit disruptive but no big deal.

As I heard him screaming in agony, it sounds to me like they zapped him four or five times. But I could be wrong.

Here’s the thing....the world famous leader who ran for President of this great country stood in front of that room and allowed this student to get zapped like that.

Come on! Kerry should have been the leader who he wanted us fools to elect and ended that whole thing.

First, Kerry was himself oncit upon a time a protester. Second, Kerry agreed, as we all can hear, to answer the guy’s question. so why did he let the guy get zapped like that?

I think this shows a total lack of humanity and just plain good sense on Kerry’s part and that’s the bigger issue here.

Not that I am surprised.

LOL! Boy howdy that's the truth. He'd be on his way to the morgue instead of to jail.

There is a side story here, depicted by this picture. It is that if minimum physical standards are set aside in order to accommodate PC notions of who should be on a police force, then you can expect the use of artificial means of subduing perps when they are not able to do the job by sheer muscle.

Isn’t a taser supposed to paralyze you? Obviously didn’t paralyze this guy, he just yelled louder. Did the taser malfunction? Did the cop not know how to use it? Did she misuse it just to punish the guy?
