Deputies carry batons, shields, helmets and mace. Caddo Deputy Matt Perguson doesn't expect the rally to get out of control.
"It's suppose to be a peaceful demonstration and I'm personally going down there with that mind set."
Deputy James Burnnett is ready to take orders. "When we get there, we're going to do whatever La Salle Parish and Jena police, Louisiana State Police want us to do."
The group expects the demonstration to be a non-violent one. If it does turn violent Deputy Pamela Buyers says the group will be ready. "We know each other. We know how we work. When you go down like that, you take care of the people you are with."
Deputies heading to Central Louisiana do this kind of work several times a year. Their plan, sticking together.
Deputy Perguson says their best defense is."Each other, us as a whole, as a team working together to look out for each other keep things peaceful." Deputies left for Jena shortly after one o'clock. They plan to meet up with other law enforcement officers controlling crowds Wednesday evening.

That should actually read “after he was knocked unconscious”, but, no. Even though their sole reason for doing it was his race, no hate crime.
I’m getting word the people of Jena have largely closed their businesses and found somewhere else to be today.
...let me get this straight: the NAACP (a group founded by blacks to deal exclusively with black interests) is accusing someone of racism?
Interesting that no matter how equal people are, only whites can be racist....

You might want to looks at a bit more history on the founding of the NAACP. It was originally set up by white liberals. Such as communist William Walling - "Mr. Walling had spent some years in Russia where his wife, working in the cause of the revolutionists", Dr. Henry Moskowitz, Mary White Ovington, Oswald Villard, etc.

There has been too little information, concerning the lead up to the incident of “the six black kids”, and because of that the context of the events, and the severity of the charges, given the facts (and relative to similar or worse crimes in that jurisdiction) are not displayed very well in the media.
There is no doubt that the six young men should be punished. But, when the greater context and all the facts are presented, the “black” community is right to refuse to deny bigotry in the community and in the prosecutors office that has, more than the charges themselves, fueled their outrage.
The NYSun is probably the most consistently conservative newspapers, in hugely liberal NY (part of why its circulation is so small).
John McWhorter is one of their regular contributing writer of editorials. He works at an essentially conservative institute in NYC, and he is very smart and an “African American” (if we can still say that). I have always appreciated his views.
Irrespective of Jesse Jackson getting into the fray on this issue, one ought to read Mr. McWhorter’s take on the issue. I think he has a more well rounded view, but one that, correctly, exposes the underbelly of bigotry that is there.

Assuming his facts are RIGHT about the prosecution of the black kids, then I might agree.
I just wonder, though, if six white kids had done the same thing, and the charges of attempted second degree murder had been dropped...

So, these people think that white kids placing a noose on a tree, however racist that may be and deserving of punishment, is somehow worse than six blacks kids beating a white kid to near death???

The noose incident had nothing to do with the beating incident. The FBI and DOJ investigated and found no evidence linking the two incidents. The kid they ganged up on had nothing to do with any of the incidents.
Mychal Bell has four prior convictions. He’s on probation until he’s 18. Two for battery, scuttlebutt says one for sexual assault of a young black girl, and two for criminal property damage. This kid has been given many opportunities to get his life together. He should have been in jail already.

They’ve been nominated for the Martn Luther King, Jr. Peace Prize and then it’s on to New York for a parade down the Avenue of the Americas.

I know they didn’t but thanks for the reminder. My point is that these people are protesting the prosecution of assault with the intent to kill because they believe other kids who hung a noose on a tree deserve something more than they got, as though the two crimes are in any way within the same level of criminal acts.

That would be appropriate since Martin Luther King, had a taste for beating up white teenage prostitutes.
How does a DA get convictions, then up the charges?
