LONDON (MarketWatch) -- In yet another sign of the American auto industry's decline, British Airways on Wednesday said it would halt flights from Detroit to London, saying it doesn't see any "possible upswing" on the route.
"Detroit was a route very dependent on the auto industry, and the changing nature of this sector made it a very challenging market to be in," British Airways said in a statement.

Northwest still flies Detroit-London.
And BA still flies to Atlanta, which is near much of the auto plants which matter.
They are running from that state.
Women, children and minorities - and terrorists - worst hit.
Detroit is New Orleans without the benefit of having a Hurricane as their excuse...
Too many muslims?.........
OK, sure, what ever.
Michigan is dying ,FAST
Strange that most of us tied the decision to the Muslim population instead of buying the spin.
isn’t it called Detroitstan now anyway?
I suppose the maggots can start flying alQaeda Airlines.
No security No way. No time.
Imams welcome.
Good luck to them.
My poor hometown. Once one of America's great cities, it's now a cesspool.
But they will switch to Heathrow (LHR) from Gatwick (LGW). Considering that lots of the frequent flyers who fly from Detroit (DTW) have frequent flyer miles on Northwest, they'll probably want to fly on Northwest rather than British Airways.
Fortunately, Houston will finally be allowed to have nonstop service to LHR that has been blocked by the Bermuda II treaty in violation of the US Constitution. The new open skies treaty with the EU has forced LHR to be opened up to any airline in the US that wants to fly there from any airport in the US.

It’s Dearbornadad. Detroit is New Fallujah.
That was my first thought. How about muslims that may fly UK to Dulles Airport and then to Detroit? I wonder if any of that was going on.
The reaction on the streets of the Motor City.
Good One
Yup. I know these stories well from my Dad’s side of the family. They got out just before the riots, which Detroit has never recovered.
Okay, so let's hear your opinion about the state.
Honestly, we've become one of the country's worst stories. "Say it ain't so, Joe".
Thank God I'm independent and not beholden to no one at this point in my life.
Just went through my worst flight last Sunday, Atlanta to Detroit on NW. Nothing to say about NW, flight was fine. The little smoking lounge in Atlanta terminal C was a hoot though.
Yellow caked walls, the TV just said "no service", confined to a 10 X 20 ft space with 30 smokers, there is no smoke eater air filtration.
After a couple of beers some dude ker-splats. Body slamming to the deck. Somehow he only hits his head about 3 or 4 times on the decent. Then I caught a cold or something.
I'm one of the idiots who believes in this town. I keep saying it's so close to the bottom there's nowhere to go but up from here.
I've carved out the road I'm traveling with my catch phrase in tow - "dumb stupid luck". I depend on it daily, and I'm be ruined without it.
IMHO, thank goodness for people like me who are bucking the odds because without us, this would be a ghost-town.
Look for the Metropolitan Police to report a steep drop in crime over the next year.
There have been plenty of boomtowns that have become ghost towns over time.
Look at the old mining towns in Colorado. Mine plays out...town dies. Look at the towns on Route 66 that were bypassed by modern interstates. Detroit isn’t the first to head that way, and it won’t be the last.
That being said, it’s fine if you want to be a caretaker for a dying city. Somebody’s gotta do it.
...but not everyone will.
