ANNAPOLIS A Maryland judge yesterday issued a temporary restraining order against Gov. Martin O'Malley's administration, saying the governor acted unconstitutionally in signing an executive order to unionize child care workers.
The order by Judge Dexter M. Thompson Jr. of the Circuit Court for Cecil County bars Mr. O'Malley, a Democrat, from enforcing the executive order he signed last month.
"Continuing to enforce the provisions of ... the executive order would result in immediate, substantial and irreparable harm to the plaintiffs," wrote Judge Thompson. The judge stated he made the ruling because the executive order breeches the separation of powers as detailed in the state constitution and because the independent child care workers should not have a union negotiator forced upon them as a result of the order.

Restrain Marty? Yeah, right. You ain't seen nothing yet Judge.
How can the governor unilaterally unionize any type of worker?
The voters of MD keep electing these jerks.
I have a lot of relatives in and around Baltimore. At a dinner party a couple of weeks ago they were all lamenting what a disappointment Marty was as mayor and has been as governor so far. “What the heck did you expect?” I wanted to scream out! (Not a single Ehrlich voter there) Someone did point out, which I didn’t know, that he is a major skirt-chaser up there in Bill Clinton’s league.
Yet another misstep by this administration. This coming with the announcement of O’Malley’s intention to raise the gas tax (on top of planned sales and corporate tax increases).
Can you say, “Governor Michael S. Steele”? :^)
Dinner would have been over after I was finished talking.
I’ll do my part to NOT re-elect any of them. Now if only there were a few hundred thousand more of me...
I’d love to see him run for Guv. Not sure he’d have a chance though.
LOL!
Elections matter.
Maryland “Freak State” PING!
Well, O’Malley is not exactly doing himself any favors with with his heretofore governance. I’d say Steele has a good shot.
There’s a fine line between “allowing” workers to unionize and forcing all non-union workers out of the field. In this case, stay-at-home moms who have a license and take one or two extra kids into their homes during the day to make ends meet, or lisenced grandmoms who work two days at a local nursery will suddenly be forced to hand over a chunk of their meager earnings to the union. Fuggeddaboudit. Democrats love to ruin small businesses with regulations.
