FREDERICK, Md. (AP) Two elected officials in Frederick County are trying to deal with problems created by the influx of illegal aliens, including tougher police efforts and cuts in public education and other services.
Sheriff Charles A. Jenkins, a Republican, has applied for a federal program that trains local police to check the immigration status of those they arrest, thereby aiding U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officials in deporting illegals convicted of crimes.
The plan by County Commissioner Charles A. Jenkins, also a Republican, calls for service cuts. He proposed the idea last month, and it is one of 14 measures county commissioners are considering for their annual package of legislative proposals for the 2008 General Assembly.
The two men are not related.
Mr. Jenkins acknowledged in an interview with the Baltimore Sun that approval is unlikely, but he and fellow Republican Commissioner John L. Thompson Jr., said they're willing to take the issue to the Supreme Court, if necessary.
The Supreme Court has ruled that states cannot deny undocumented children access to public education.
"I think they're a positive step to improving the quality of life for everyone who is legally allowed to be here," Mr. Jenkins told the Frederick News-Post.
The county's immigrant population has increased from 7,779 foreign-born residents in 2000 to an estimated 19,437 in 2006, according to the U.S. Census Bureau.

I don’t know if keeping children out of school is a good idea, even if they are here illegally. Kids not in school can get into so much trouble...
On the other hand, I wish that these two fellow’s other actions were duplicated 10,000 times across this nation. It would easily mean no jobs and no social support agencies handing out cash to illegals, resulting in an exodus out of the U.S.
ping
Are you willing to foot the bill for all of these dependents of illegals?
It's already starting to look like Tijuana in the environs around which I have increased the fortifications of my castle, but not too far from me are unintended multi-family dwellings, despite county and city ordinances against them.
Throw in subsidized housing (no public housing "projects") which allows barrio fugitives to slip in amongst the legal workers, both imigre' and native, and a constellation of other "social services" and it's time to hit the dusty trail.
Oh, and we can't forget the fact that there are several places that the Feebs are pretty sure are terror cells and training camps and you have a little bit of heaven on earth. And guess who holds down hundreds of jobs at nearby Ft. Detrick, home of our biodefense effort?
Phoenix would be an improvement. At least out there they have a sheriff that doesn't put up with any bull$#!t.
And I could join the Minute-Men to the south and do my part to preserve the Union...
No, no. Make it illegal for the kids to be in school and save tax money, and at the same time prosecute the parents for truancy and deport upon discovery that they are illegal.
It’s a win win.
“It’s already starting to look like Tijuana in the environs around which I have increased the fortifications of my castle”
This is happening all over the USA and just in the past few years. I’ll bet we have 6 million more illegals just in the past 3 years.

Joe Arpaio is an American treasure. We love him here!
One Mexican kid at the football game last Friday had on a shirt that read “YOU CAN’T DEPORT US ALL”. Though they have rules about what you can wear to a school function, no one made him change or leave.
Actually, this suggests there’s still some sanity left in Frederick Cty.
I take it you’re in MontCo?
I would have said something to him myself. I’m sick of those arrogant bastards thinking THEY are the boss here. F**k ‘em.
Yea, verily.
I live in Howard County. There’s still some semblence of normalcy here, but it seems to worsen as time goes on from what people here tell me.
El PING de Maryland-Estado de los Ejemplares Anormales!
Bttt!
1. Kids out of school get reported by a neighbor.
2. The home gets a visit from the truant officer.
3. The truant officer reports the undocumented parents to the INS.
4. The family gets deported.
See how it works when people follow the law instead of wringing their hands over people who break the law?
In Prince George's county, the entire Takoma-Langley area around the huge intersection of University Blvd and New Hampshire Aves (about 10,000 residents) that used to be mostly white Protestants and Jews with a Catholic minority is now all hispanics. The Hot Shoppes that was there since 1950 is now a Taco Bell. You cannot get through that intersection in less than one half hour, because they all drive at a crawl so as to avoid getting a ticket and getting deported.
His family may have killed him for screwing things up and derailing their gravy train.....
